Change alliances?

Did they ever plan to allow players to switch alliances? I think this is absolutely crucial for players in PvP so they move around and find the group where they fit in. For instance I'd love to switch one of my chars to play with friends on another alliance but cannot without starting a new character.

Agreed , this is the last thing that the devs need to allow or spend time on. Reroll and alt on another alliance to play with your friends.

Not so much - right now everyone is free to choose the campaign where his alliance is winning and there are campaigns where each alliance just has all, but is it really goal to play game where you win and there is no opponent?
If the soft cap was working then those who choose winning campaign would simply be blocked from accessing it, in such case all that want to have fun and fight could choose alliance with less players and in such case everything could be much more balanced. Right now more people choose EP and if soft cap was turned on then there would be a lot of unhappy players, but if they could choose Alliance then all would be balanced.

no not at all - many if not most are bored by the campaigns that are one-sided, especially on the winning side.

They definitely need to make it so you can switch alliances for the purposes of PvP.

Maybe allow switching sides if you are veteran and only 1 time every 1/2/3 months, or something like that. That could work.

Oh so basically you want them to go back on the pre-order bonus, that some people value quite highly.

If you want to play with your friends, that make a character with them.
You only have to be level 10 to enter Cyrodiil to play with them.

If you don't want to be out levelled and geared, well that's an entirely different issue all together.

pretty fascist position, basically just lock people into a single alliance or force them to go through hours and hours of trash quests and boring and redundant mob grinds/dungeons just for PvP? PVP will get extremely boring. And btw, you better allow people to keep switching campaigns as the majority of the campaigns are empty of 2 alliances while the other just farms.

yeah you didn't read or didn't understand, what we're talking about is switching alliances after the fact with the same character, for the purposes of PVP only.

if the soft lock was used then switching aliances/campaigns would simply let people join underpopulated campaign - there would be no reason to join overpopulated (and probably winning) campaign becuase soft lock would simply block access.

changing alliances for the sake of pvp is a good idea. Instead of making it so you cannot change alliances until you hit vet, why not make it cost a boadload of AP or gold, let's say, 100,000 AP or 20,000 gold? Expensiveness makes it a serious decision, not a limited one.

People would just switch to the winning team. As it is they switch servers too easily.

Allowing a switch of alliance would destroy the last semblance of faction pride that exists in this game where faction pride has already been severely dimished.

Not quite; Anyone who purchases the Imperial edition can play an Imperial in any alliance. Only pre-order bonus allows any race in any alliance.

I think they do need to allow player characters to switch alliances. However, they do need to do it correctly.

My personal opinion is that they need to make a quest series for your character to betray the alliance it is currently in. Once the quest chain is completed they cannot return to their previous alliance, just like a person who betrays their people in war really can't return to their home country. In other words, it is irreversible. This would keep the spying to a minimum, but it would also allow those who have picked a different alliance after rolling a character able to do that. They may even want to add a cost to changing alliances because you don't want it to be happening all the time.

EQ2 had a one time faction change quest. I remember doing that with my dark elf to the good side lol

I DO care about balance, its why I refused to make an AD character at launch.(I have made a DC character) If you are going to sit there and associate me with all the idiots that go on over to EP just to go to the winning side, then you are an ignorant fool. I have been EP since LAUNCH, no, since BETA. I planned to be EP long before the game even released. I am not EP because I want to be on the winning side, I am EP because that is the faction I chose long before most of the people in this game even began playing. I have been on these forums raging my a** off over all the pop imbalances and the class imbalances and all the other crap that is going on, long before you even started commenting!:/

I am not going to sit here and have some random forum person "talk" to me in such a manner. I have done things in the name of balance many players do not have the guts to do. I have made full on stamina builds, I have refused to be a part of the ridiculous impulse blobs, I have refused to turn into a perma blocking damage shield spamming player, I refused to level a DK character into PvP due to the class imbalance of the time, I have done things in the name of balance that many people have called me stupid for. So don't sit there and associate me with those people that could care less if the game died out. I can deal with people disagreeing with me, or even hating me, but I WILL have respect for all of the crap I do to avoid upsetting the balance of the game.

If you cannot offer me a little respect at least, then I have no reason to even waste my time with you. I have done nothing to you to deserve such a disrespecting response. If that is how you are going to act towards me, then I have no reason to deal with you anymore(I have become a drama queen, crap. oh well.)
