Rapid Maneuver works well, too. Getting rapid is one of the reasons that I go to Cyrodiil as soon as I hit level 10 and do the tutorial.

I can't stand this quest because my computer has really bad lag. Even with a horse I can't complete it.

I did it without horse just used sprint and stamina potions.
Had more problems with the fight and dungeon afterward but at least for the fight you can wait for other to come and help.

I tried it with a horse. Due to some of the obstacle bits I actually found it easier to complete without one.

Hmm never thought about this due to never being able to afford a horse at that low level - I just ran it normally and won it my first tries in beta/post launch.

Just don't bother going on most of the obstacles and you'll win.

Doing it with a horse may be more trouble than its worth. I did it on a magicka focused sorcerer on my first try just sprinting when I had stamina. I messed up on one of the obstacles, but apparently that's not enough to result in a losing time.

Dropped my heavy armor, ran in my skivvies with a good stamina buff and potion ready and it was a piece of cake.

Odd, I dunno why anybody would need a horse. I've done it just sprinting (with no points in stamina), getting hung up once after failing to leap one of the obstacles, and still finished with 1/3rd of the time remaining.

Although at that point in the game I think I just used Bolt Escape or Rapid Retreat + Boundless Storm... wasn't a vamp quite yet.

Also to anyone who doesn't know while doing this quest, put away your damn weapon... you loose something like 30% of your speed if your weapon is out.

You mean I wasn't allowed to use my 40% speed horse? I don't understand how is this a cheat if you use your horse?

hahah I just ran using stamina potions and even had enough time to pick up a rune on the way.

Because you really do not need one. Normal running with stamina run when there is nice straight line will do the trick easily.

i hate all jumping required tasks i just suck at getting the timing right... took me over 30 attempts to get past this "test" on my first toon and i just passed 20 attempts on my second toon... and i have 2 more AD toons waiting in line...
and yes i too find it harder to jump when needed on the horse.

please consider an alternate path for folks like me that perhaps are offered after a failure counter passes a given number of failed attempts at tasks like this.
i would suggest 10 would be enough of a penalty.

you could treat it like the way the persuade and intimidate talents work and have those options show up after a set number of fails on any task that requires fine dexterity of the gamer.

remember that folks with disabilities also play your games in my case a bad case of arthritis in my fingers and hands makes the game mechanics almost imposable to complete

I didn't figure this out till the second time thru. Also I realized that you can go around some of the obstacles. The race only cares that you hit the objective points.

Only one obstacle was more difficult on the horse, just dismount before that, and finish the race with ease.

I used my horse without issue.Completed it the first time round using the horse. Sprinting doesnt always work that well.

I fail this race everytime. I can't get past this point. I fail whether I use sprint or not, whether I avoid the obsticles or not, nothing I have tried seems to help me to succeed at this race. I fail even before I get halfway thru. I don't have a horse and I won't PvP so no special skills from there to help.

At this point I am retiring my AD character and hope there isn't a race like this with the other Factions.

I'm not asking for Zenimax to change this quest. (edit... see below)

edit on 4/27... I kept trying and later same night finally got it done by switching to a multibutton mouse and remapping sprint and potions to the mouse. For me that did the trick.

@Auricle... some of us who play MMOs are not Gamers (console gamers or action PC gamers). Call them "stand in the fire" MMOs. We played MMOs that don't require dodging or jumping to complete content so ESO is a bit of of an adjustment.

I wonder if it's possible to win the race in Windhelm, you're not needed to as you're in the race to watch it not compete, and those guys...When it started they were gone. Perhaps with speed potions, bolt escape, and maybe some other modifiers it may stand a better chance, but I dunno...

As for this though it was pretty easy, atleast for me.

As for this though it was pretty easy, atleast for me.

The sorcerer lightning form ability has a speed boost morph. I forget the name of it, though.
I see another speed buff commonly, I think it's a restoration staff ability morph.
Combine those and my character runs fast enough to hit the occasional loading screen..
If there are speed potions that stack with that than I'm sure you could probably do it.

I have no idea what race you're talking about but I'm sure it's doable.
