I'm level 9 Nightblade and I am finding many of the on-level quests in Auridon to be quite difficult for me. Am I a terrible Nightblade, or is this game a lot harder than other mmo's?

The starting levels are quite difficult as well as Veteran Levels. In that sense yes, this game is TONS harder than some MMOs like WoW (Speaking from personal experience).

More than class, I imagine which weapons, skills, tactics, and armor you use will determine how hard things are. You COULD play the game using ~no~ class based skills, for example, so there should not be an intrinsic difficulty for a particular class.

That said, if you DO use class abilities (advised :) ) then WHICH class abilities you use --- which are determined by your class --- can make the game easier or harder.

Um.. I'd say it's a bunch of factors. Enemies have "queues" which hint that they're performing some action. If you're not aware of these and you take the full blow some of them can easily lead to fatality. Whether it's Doshia's healing orbs or just a regular mobs heavy attack, learn these queues to help you defeat your opponents. Even more basic than this is understanding what your character can do regardless of class. This is light and heavy attacks, blocking (hold right-mouse button down, does not require shield), interrupting (hold right-mouse button down and left click near opponent) and sneaking (default key is left Ctrl key). Many of these basic functions can really help you out.

Now that aside lets move onto the giant list of bugs. Without going through literally every item suffice to say that there are plenty of bugs that make it very challenging for players who expect X to happen only to die because said ability is bugged. Night blade is not the only class bugged, but I play NB and I know full well how much crap is busted, from abilities to pretending to go off to simply not giving you the effect the text says it will.

When I was a NB early level I always used sneak to initiate a fight, this results is critical bonus damage which basically kills the first mob you attack. The tips here are you must NOT be fully detected (eye) and the attack MUST be from the side or behind the target. Doing it in the front, regardless of if you are 100% invis with ability, will not result in bonus damage. Next make sure you pick up a few abilities outside of your class tree. This would be under Weapons, and depending on what you use (I dual wield, but you don't have to) make sure to pick up some weapon abilities as these use STAMINA as a resource and not MAGICKA, so having two sets of abilities on your 5-slot bar helps fully utilize the resources available to you. Plus, weapon abilities I find tend to do raw damage which is handy at quickly disposing of mobs.

Also, you should be making sure your gear is repaired as it takes damage quickly if you die too often and also make sure it is somewhat close to your level (less important). I had level 8 armor when I was around 16 before I upgraded, but I usually kept my weapons fresh every two levels.

At the end of the day though you're not a terrible night blade, trust me when I say it takes some time getting used to - especially depending on whether you play first or third person. I play first person as I find attacking to be a lot more accurate than third (though there is a trick to understanding how third-person works). Besides, you're level 9 and the Nightblade is much, much more different to other stealthy classes in other games. It is so widely open that you can make it into any type of role, which is the beauty of it. I use purely Bow myself and it allows me to do some things that other roles could not, which a Nightblade Healer could probably outlast any healer on the battlefield due to it's siphoning :)

A nightblade tank can also outlast almost every tank and is one of the best due to the fact that it can heal itself too.

You will be able to decide what you want. Either way, it's going to be an awesome ride!

Did you do the beginner Island aswell ?

In most cases the quests should not be higher than your own lvl, often the mobs are even a lvl lower.
If you still have issues, grab heavy armor and a 1h+shield.
Bow is also nice in combination with dual wield.

I went back to the starter island, and collected the skyshards I missed. I used a website to locate them. In the process, I found a couple of quests I missed. So I did those. I managed to get enough shards and a level to gain 3 skillpoints. Hopefully this gives me the edge.

Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

I'm also a total noob and I ran two different characters up to 13 and had to give up because I couldn't kill anything and then I picked a sorcerer and it has been great. I was afraid it was too hard for me but my practice and finding the best class for me has really helped. Good luck, I know you can find the right one for you.

You're only a low level, just re-roll a DK or Sorc.
    You won't have troubles anymore.

And you won't have to deal with all the bugged skills and veteran problems with NB's later on.

Taking your passives and not just more class skills that don't fit on your bar anyway?

I find my lowbie NB to be really effective so far. Sure occasionally she gets overwhelmed in big groups. If you are playing a DPS Blade remember the strategy that will work the best. That you will sneak in and hit hard and fast and hopefully drop at least 1 mob before they can even respond. Make sure you are using some of the stun/disorient status effects.

I have three characters at levels 43, 25 and 20 (NB and 2 sorc) and around level 9 I was about ready to delete all of them. For some reason characters level 7-9 seem weaker than anything before or after, relative to quests at their level.

a few things i always make sure to remember when playing my NB. First sneak...it is your friends. 2nd Attack from behind, you will score a critical this way. #rd pick your targets, NBs are not bruisers like DK and Templar, they are assassins or hit and run type of classes. The longer the fight drags on the more likely you are to die.

Yep your goal should always be one mob (usually the caster) needs to eat dirt before you are attacked even once.

the problem is when you run in to a caster AND healer...that is when you pick...(as a vamp i run in to this) i see a fire mage and a healer...i need to kill the healer but the fire mage will hurt badly...so i try and burst the healer down as quick as i can then turn and essence dreain the fire mage to gain back my hp then kill them. Then there is usually some arrows or a sword flying at me because you know...nothing is ever simple on ESO lol. Playing NB makes me plan..and use tactics my DK i can just run in and steam roll them with green dragon blood. I love my NB i just wish the skills would work all the time...does animation breaks your stealth but does nothing...great not the enemy is on me XD.

You may want to look at this thread in, in particular what @altheina mentions about all the broken skills that NB's have.

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/comment/792506/#Comment_792506

I have currently stopped playing my bowmen NB until they fix it and have added Assassins/thieves guild.

Stealthy rangers have been my go to build in all ES games, and this game has butchered my love of them. It is a broken class that has been heavily nerfed to accommodate PvP. This class should be the best at Stealth, and the best at using DW/Bow, but they are not, they are not even close.

I found nothing at all difficult about this game at any level. When WoW was first release (as that is what you have to compare it too, not WoW in todays world at level 9) WoW was just as "hard" as this game.

It is rather amusing relating brand new games to 10 year old games.

BTW i am also speaking from personal experience.

Rather than start a new thread, thought Id ask my NB question here.
Would it be wiser to morph Siphoning Strikes into Leeching Strikes, or Siphoning Attacks?
    All good Nords goto Sto'Vo'Kor.
