Sacrifice choice quests are too common

I'm into the 3rd veteran alliance quest marathon. One thing that is getting quite old if the forced sacrifice choices in so many quests. Is life so cheap that npc are so willing to give up their lives? i guess there are 1-2 quests per zone that you have to make the weighty choice between one or another to die or use up their soul to save whatever. So frequently does is pop up that it makes me cringe.
