Best build to beat Molag Bal

Texwa
Texwa
I know this sounds like an opinion poll and I apologize up front. But I am a Veteran Level 1 Sorcerer and cannot get anywhere near close to beating Molag Bal. He runs much faster than I so he is always right behind me or if I do get a couple of steps breathing room he jumps on top of me, draining health and stunning me. By the time I can move again he is right behind me again. I have the Twilight Matriarch that I keep re-conjuring so she can give me back some health but she gets killed quickly and doesn't appear to do anything to Molag Bal. I have 29 Magica, 10 Health, 11 Stamina. I would go back and try to gain whatever else it is that I need to beat Molag Bal but I'm not sure if there are any other quests in the Aldmeri Dominion that I haven't beaten. I love the game but not sure what to do now unless I want to try over and over again, even though it seems pretty hopeless. Is everyone else beating Molag Bal? If so could you share your build or any secrets? Yes I have already googled and didn't really find a lot on this yet. I'm sure more will appear soon.
Thanks,.

Block his attacks more? I had no trouble keeping him at range and just sprinting/dodging away when he did his body slam special.

Generally, unless you're doing something weird, he will used ranged attacks on you if you're at range, and he'll only close the distance for that special attack.

Beat him using a resto staff and heavy/light attacks on a Templar built for sword and board.

I had more trouble getting to Molag Bal than actually fighting him (mainly due to my "companions" being absolutely useless and just standing there instead of helping so I had to fight everything to get to that point on my own ...... and tanking those Skeletons torturing Mannimarco wasn't fun).

I just kept moving during the Molag fight. Takes a while but his health goes down sloooowly.

Never went below 75% health and that was only because I was trying to fight a small army of Titans too.

When he jumps up in the air a red ring appears on the ground .... don't be stood there or it hurts.

As others have said movement is key.

I am a vr1 sorcerer and had no trouble beating him. My stats are 20 Magica 29 Health 0 Stamina. Unless you are a melee Sorcerer, I do not see any reason for the 11 Stamina. The skills I used were Regen, Crystal Fragments, Endless Fury, Dark Deal, and Clanfear.

I circled around the outer edge, keeping the rock formations between me and Molag Bal, using endless fury until crystal fragments popped. I used clanfear as a distraction, I'm not even sure it was needed. When the Titan's spawn, block. Their attacks will reflect back and kill them in 1 or 2 hits. Keep moving, using sprint to evade his AoE attacks, and dodge when he jumps. When he jumped, I went straight across to the other side of map and continued circling.

When needed,I used Dark Deal behind a rock formation to recover Health and Magica. You do not have to channel the full 4 seconds to recover health and magica. Just 1 or 2 seconds is enough to recover and keep moving.

Most important, fire and movement is key. You have to be able to move and attack at the same time. You will die if you do not move.

It was one of the easiest fights in the game...and the reward was a complete joke. (No Spoilers, other than...seriously, a POS reward)

I beat him on my Sorc using a Resto staff + bound armor (not sure i even needed this mind you) + the self regen heal on resto staff + block + alot of stamina for sprinting around. I did not use anything else, no weapon swopping, no potion drinking, no pets, that's it.

In hindsight, i COULD have used more DPS spells , but i was having a nice routine going there. If i had to use spells too, it would most certainly be instant cast ones.

All i did was literally, attack Molag with the staff , block whatever he throws at me and move out of his AOE-jump . Everytime he landed, i would sprint away and hit him with my resto staff inbetween his bouts of soul throwing.

The bunch of dragons came early in the fight which required a bit more concentration , but i'm sure you know all you do there is block their blue balls of fire, it reflects straight back at them. So they died quite fast, i'm not sure there is any faster way to kill them than blocking.

The entire rest of fight was me keeping distance between me and Molag , i was NEVEr in any melee range of him. The fight took awhile, but yet i was never in any danger of dying either , as my only damage was from my resto staff. If i got hit i simply healed myself with the resto staff heal (while running out of any red circles).

I totally forgot to even use my ultimate. The thing with the resto staff heavy attack is , it's a constant beam/channel that kinda locks onto the mob, whereas say destro staff is balls of fire/ice/lightning or a Bow is arrow that can miss and require more targeting. It is also simply more visible, you can see you are hitting Molag (the animation lag on the EU server makes other ranged weapons rather annoying to use).

I also had the passive that increase resto dps, so i wasn't doing any less damage than on a destro staff.

It also helps if you got a good surplus of stamina and stamina regen, for blocking and sprinting. That was the only stat that was taxed. I rarely used my mana (only for healing) and my health rarely dropped below 80% (again, i had a constant regen heal on me anyway).

I must add, i don't do this dodge thing, i SPRINT and it works perfectly, i have more control and can keep a lock on the target much easier.

    I have to agree.

The ending of Coldharbour and the ending of the main story are two of the most anti climatic events in the game.

All that was missing was a kick in the nuts.

    Seriously disappointed me.

Been awhile but IIRC there is a rock formation in the middle of that room? I seem to recall keeping the terrain objects in between him and I as I slowly chipped away at him, was a long fight.

Definitely not a run in and burst damage/up in his face kinda fight (at least for me it wasn't), so use the geometry around you and poke at him when you can...and watch those red circles, run when the approach.

I did this fight using my Bow load-out on my Nightblade and it was a very easy fight (I must say I was disappointed at how easy and anti-climatic it was). The only thing I can advise is just never stop moving and take advantage of when he does his big JUMP move for taking aimed/cast time shots, beyond that it's just a matter of staying out of his ground targeting indicators.

Thanks everybody. I think part of my problem is that I use the Volatile Familiar and Twilight Matriarch a lot and neither seem to do much in this fight. My dependence on them may also mean my Resto Staff level isn't high enough.

Just click, run, stay out of crap...block on the baddies that spawn...rinse repeat and collect your POS of a reward with not even a skill point. Least the mages guild gave me two.

I beat Molag Bal with ease. I was VR1 pure heal Templar. Full light armor. I used a Resto Staff and Mutagen was the only heal I needed. He barely did any damage. Just used heavy attacks, flare and solar barrage. I didn't even feel he did much damage when he attacked me. I dodged his power attacks. I didn't even need to block.

Destruction staff NB with leaching strikes+Swallow Soul+ Crippling grasp and full Heavy armor with all passives. I don't know how others build do on this fight but I was really disappointed by the Molag Bal fight with this build because it seemed to be GOD mode. I never went bellow 75%. The only thing I had to do is avoid his hits and kite him to death pressing two bottons.

As someone mentioned, there is a rock formation in middle, try to stay out of line of sight as much as you can, he will have to teleport/jump then, and you can see where he will appear to attack you.
Keep moving around, all time, always facing middle of room, just go in circles so you can see what is going around you.
If he cast something you cant avoid, dodge roll or sprint, and use rocks again.
Try equipping restoration staff and 1 (or more) healing abilities. Use heavy attack when you running out of magicka, and heal yourself if you failed to avoid aoe attacks.
Fight is really too easy for end of story big bad boss. Some earlier encounters in game are far more difficult then this one.

As others have suggested it was an easy fight for me too. I never got below 80%h health BUT I have all attributes in health and all gear enchanted all my gear for magicka. I used a combination of AoE attacks for his minions, regular/stamina-based attack for actual damage against MB, and simply moved around a lot. Fights with other bosses were considerably harder.

Now, it may have helped that I spent weeks in PvP fine-tuning my fighting skills (and I'm not normally a PvPer). PvP taught me A LOT!

Whew i beat him tonight. First though i re-allocated my attributes and magica. My health dropped some but I kept running and eventually wore him down. Wasn't as easy for me as for others but a lot of fun. I'm still loving this game. :)

There is no BEST build to fight Molag Bal because he is so freaking easy to deal with.
You gain epic boost to ALL of your skills, spells e.t.c. when fighting him (you actualy gain that boost earlier, when you start your way ther, but i just dont remember the name of location), so its just doesnt make any difference to what will you actualy use against him.

Just use ANY, and i mean it, ANY lifestealing ability. For example, use second skill of Mages Guild line.
You gain such an epic boost to all of your skills, that you will heal full health with only 1 tick of any lifestealing skill.

So in the end you will kill Molag Bal even if you fight him naked and empty handed just because you can heal for ever and will never die.

Molag sounds like he's an easy boss to conquer once at your correct experience level folks!

I did him like I do all the mobs until v1.1 hits the server.

Shield bashed him until he dropped dead. I didn't even bother dodging most AOEs.

I have lag, I mean really high lag for the modern day, because I'm an expat in the MidEast. So playing requires some thought. In this case, it's run three seconds, sprint one second, rinse and repeat until health is near 100%, go around the rock and double back, pound him till you run out of magica, then run some more. If you are a primarly sta user, then you certainly want to leave enough for some sprinting away. I maxed health and magic with food, jewelry and so forth. I even had three pieces of unassailable, for +11 health recovery that way. So I'd get away and get health back pretty quickly.

Lag prevents me from dodging, so I have to figure out the sequence, and his is pretty regular. Oh, it does help if you wait till you hear his THUMP when he's tried to drop on you to turn and pound him, he can't repeat that for a while.
