Is Magelight Useful to YOU as a caster?

I run a 5 light 2 heavy armor Sorcerer with destro staff build right now. I see some other casters who use Magelight here and there. Is it worth it just for the small critical chance to have it on my bar and with the -5% magika while toggled on? Will it stack with my light armor of 5 pieces spell crit?

Is it worth having it for PvE and PvP, and do YOU use it? Why or why not?

Well, it's not a very small amount of crit if you morph it to add more. And yes, it will stack with your other crit. So it's quite useful.

I've read that it is useful in PvP; I don't have it myself and am very interested to know who is using it and in what context.
    Baskin Robbins always finds out.

It's useful in PvP for stealth detection, even more so with the morph for that.

This is the morph people use for PvE.

Is this one on one PvP? In other words in PvP are people using this in group fights?

They're generally using the other morph, found here, for PvP, because of the bonuses against stealthed characters. In a group, one character with Radiant Magelight can help prevent a stealth-slaughter of everyone in your party.

In PvE, 17% spell crit is something that most casters can't pass up.

The only time I have seen it used in pvp was when I was trying to do the pve quests there and a vet 10 vampire was stealthed and every time I went to hand in a quest I had to sneak and then he pulled Magelight and well you must know how vamps are in pvp...

Tldr: Magelight is used, in my experience, as a troll tactic

I use 5 light 2 heavy armor Sorcerer as well and use it on both bars. You can also use other ability's to increase the crit chance like deadric summoning or your weapon. I have noticed it DOES NOT WORK some times check your character sheet to make sure you get the bonus when activated. Seeing the * when I hit someone makes me happy! Just use FTC and you WILL see the difference in the damage you are doing and it is not minimal.

VR1 purple destro staff does decent damage but hit with a crit will get me around 300 damage plus the burning damage from enchantment. The bonus from wearing Night Mothers Gaze set helps too, 20% armor reduction on crit hit.

Since destro staff is considered a "weapon" and the damage a staff does scales with Stamina, does a staff benefit from spell crit on basic and heavy attacks or no? Since basic and heavy cost not stamina or magika, I was curious is the spell crit would benefit the staff or if it would not due to it being considered a weapon?

17-20%, depending on the level of the morphed skill.

It's really useful in group play.

I find it to be a very useful skill to have on my bar as a 5L/2H armor SnB caster Templar. The additional critical since maxxing out the ability (+20% crit), in addition to maxxing out light armor, has made VR zones feel not much more challenging than standard zones, and running at 41% base crit is fun in both PvE/PvP. Hitting someone with a chain of 700+ damage Dark Flares is always fun. For me, at least.

All my skill set ups that have critical surge have the 20% added crit from Inner Light. And some of my set ups that don't. I have it on probably 75% of the time.
    Do you even backstory, bro?

seems useful to me im at 51% crit now I spam aoe everything dies. crit surge and aoe spam means constant heal. the more mobs the better, I went in a public dungeon pulled like 15 mobs and dropped them all in 5 ish shots said I pulled 11k dps but I think I broke the meter after repeating it several times all I normally get is 2k to 5k

An auto attack is not affected but staff spells like Pulsar are affected. Inner Light + Critical Surge + Pulsar is a very synergistic combination.

Honestly the only reason I do not use it is it is literally too bright to look at for long. Blame it on having a decent video card, but the dang thing makes me almost nauseous after awhile. If you can spare the slot though, and the graphic doesn't cause you migraines, I can't see any reason not to have it. That is a hell of allot of spell crit!
Also FYI, I am not sure if it is fixed or not yet but in beta it was proven that channeled attacks (resto staff and lightning staff) do not crit. The lightning heavy 'lightning ball' will, but the channeled damage itself will not.

As a sorcerer, yes. If you are in a party mostly doing resto heals and CC, not so much but Regen DOES crit, so still may be worth it in that situation.

It's mostly used in conjunction with Critical Surge for the healing. Using it with Bound Aegis, Dark Deal, and Pulsar makes you an AOE energizer bunny.

I would totally use this skill , if i could turn off that light... that light is so freaking annoying.

I would love it if the affect was just the lighting around the hands and eyes. I might end up using it on all my characters then just because it looked so freakin cool.
