WARNING TO ALL!

Remember to watch out for this scam!
If anyone sends you an item always check the COD!
Some people are trying to steal lots of gold this way by sending you items and charging you prices for their junk items!

Some might send you several for free then a random one charges you like 5k or something.

BE WARNED!

And have a nice night~

You'd be pretty stupid to fall for this. The game gives you a popup dialogue asking if you're sure you want to spend X gold on the mail.

Can't say as this surprises me. EVE Online breaks you into expecting everybody to be a scammer. :p

Just report it where you see it. Hardly anybody is going to see this thread. I'm not certain ZOS reprimands for scamming, but if there was a clear agreement to exchange goods for gold, they probably will.

Well, that explains why mysterious strangers have sent me stuff in the mail a couple of times. I just assumed they had typoed the correct addressee and so I returned to sender.

Thank you for the warning.. it's also good to double check that people are actually giving you correct items and all that when doing trades. Double checking items, and gold amount when it comes to any sort of trading is a good common practice to have. I also personally don't trade anything that the game doesn't have a system setup to trade. So no selling/buying vamp/ww bites for me. Far too easy to get scammed as there is no guarantee you'll get your thing.

My one big blunder was that during the early access days, when motifs were still going for 2k, I accidentally sent someone 2k instead of CoDing for 2k. Luckily they were nice enough to send the gold back (plus the 2k that they said they'd pay), but since then I have been triple checking that I have the correct radio checked.

It's not for free. that is the point. If you accept the item you pay what ever CoD price they have listed.

Thankfully, I only shop in the guild store. The only time I do business outside of that is an in-person item to item trade. I don't even give non-guildies payment for goods; only trades.

If, for some bizarre reason, I ever got an item in the mail that's COD, I'd decline it out of reflex.

Nice warning, though. I think, if the gold farmers are using tactics like these, ZOS has probably pushed them nearly to the breaking point.
The moment you call someone stupid, or try to display your opinion as "fact", you lose all credibility.

Lol yeah any of us that played Eve Online are stone cold vets against scams lol I saw this one from a mile away the first time I got it.

That said seeing it a lot right now the mail is more annoying then the scam.

Yeah, me too. And by the way, if they're sending people things for free first, they probably wind up losing more money than they gain-- because most people are certain to notice when a big COD fee suddenly becomes involved. :)

heh some of the scams in eve online are just downright devious.. it always was a lot of fun hanging around jita and figuring out what the scams exactly were

(particularly liked the one where they sold a Plex very cheap.. for a plex and the asked amount of isk :P )

I may be abnormal, but I saw a guy WTBing in chat and sent him them item he wanted, and which I didn't need, with no COD. I find the whole buy/selling thing largely pointless as you don't really need gold in this game except to buy a horse, bank space and occasional repairs. Gold is so unnecessary I'm surprised people bother trying to buy and sell on an ongoing basis, so I'll just give somebody something if I don't need it.

Hold the phone, would that actually work? And is there any risk from scamming bots if it does?

That's cool of you. What I usually do is try to sell some items for a few minutes, and if no takers, I Decon or Vendor. Sometimes I will also throw items on Guild Store for well above vendor price, so if someone decides they want to overpay, its a win for me, and the items has been out of my bagspace.

I agree though, gold has seemingly very little use. Except for maybe those who insist on repairing their gear, and the obvious bag space, mount, and maybe buying of trait items/mats from other players.
