Let's speculate about SPELL MAKING!

I'm very interested to see what it will be like. Personally I sort of imagine it'll be like alchemy, where you combine effects together possibly using all those pesky Essence runes. It'll probably make Spell Tomes that you can use to learn said spell, and you'll probably only have a limited amount of custom spells available to know all at once. I'm thinking maybe 3 or 5, since they'll probably be slotted like skills.

In case you're wondering, it's mentioned here:

Yeah, this was one of my favorite things to do in the TES series. Sit at the alter and come up with spells / enchantments for myself. Some fun stuff. Will make things even more interesting for the game too.

I'm very curious, because my expectation is that the spells will be just like the skill lines.

My concern is that they won't want the spells to be stronger than the skills, so it might be sort of useless. They also might choose to implement it differently, for example by creating a weapon that uses the spell (instead of slotting as a skill). Kind of like how in Skyrim your right or left hand could slot a spell. That would affect me because I use sword and shield, so I am not sure I would want to give up the sword for a spell.

I think it's gone for good, it wasn't in Skyrim, and there were problems with people creating stupid spells in Oblivion and Morrowind. Like the spell that allowed you to jump so high you died. Even if they bring back the spell altars, it won't be in an MMO.

Spell books though, since they can choose what available and what's not, they might give us those.

I assumed that spellcraft would allow you to pull abilities from other class lines.

I could be mistaken, but that would seem to be the logical place to take this.

"In crafting spells, you'll be rediscovering the traditional Elder Scrolls schools of magic (alteration, destruction, etc)."
That's pulled from the AMA. So clearly a crafting profession, and I assume the created spells will be slotted on your hotbar. Consumable scrolls are a possibility too. You'll probably need to research/learn the various spell effects.
The big question though: will Mysticism be making a comeback?

I think that it'll be crafting profession in which you'll be making spell books that work like weapons with custom effects. I think that it'll use enchanting runes.
So you make spellbook with frost damage, equip it and shoot frostballs.
I think that there will be perk for 2 effect spell.

I would guess consumable scrolls/books that you slot in your quickslots like potion and food. Could do a variety of things, like a buff that could stack with your food item, maybe casting a circle on the ground that does damage to enemies or heals allies, etc. could go on and on.

But I think consumable here is the way to go, as I wouldn't want to need to spend skill points on spells learned. And to keep it viable as a craft, spells would need to be destroyed when used.

EDIT: Maybe books could be the blue/purple versions which get multiple uses before being destroyed.

I am hoping that we will be able to craft spells that can be equipped like any regular one-hand weapon, but I think that they will probably just be consumables.

It is just that I wish I could use spells instead of weapons on my Sorcerer (main), and if they were crafted, upgraded and equipped in the same way that weapons are it wouldn't really affect balance.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

    Agreed completely.... instead of staffs.

I could see it being done either way. Consumable (like scrolls in Skyrim, which I never used) or one-handed weapon (like all spells in Skyrim, taking up a hand slot).

One handed weapon would be interesting because then sorcerers could either use two one-handed spells or could use a shield and spell combo (I did that from time to time in Skyrim).

Only issue is I don't think you would have access to the Destruction or Restoration staff skill line if you didn't equip a two handed staff.
