How do the spell resist and armor stats work?

Are they percentage based or flat reduction? ie. If I'm attacked by a 200 damage spell, is it reduced to 195 with 20 spell resist(hypothetical 5% resist) or is it reduced to 180 with 20 spell resist(hypothetical flat 20 resist)?

Judging by the fact that no one has replied yet, people might not have a clue. I'd suggest asking devs or using one of the battle log addons and fighting some mages with and without spell resist ring. Then you can get an idea of how much reduction you get.

I would, but I don't have any friends.

Pretty sure it's percentage based, but I have no actual numbers to give to support it :P

You don't need to fight player mages, just find some single mage mob, let him hit you a bit with spell resist ring, kill him, take off the ring, wait for him to respawn and let him hit you again, this time without the ring. Do it a few times and see what dps numbers he's doing against you.
