My aim is mostly PvE but I want to be able to Pvp to a decent level. I have a solo set of skills with lots of self heal and a second set with some staff group heal but able to do some quick damage for single target, useful for things like Dolmens.
I'm a long time gamer but virgin MMO'er so would welcome so advice on where to change both for PvE and also to help dungeon groups. PvP is a secondary thing right now.
- You generally want to avoid having the same skill in both bars. Not always, but it's kind of a waste of a slot, since weapon-swaps are easy to do while in combat.
- Restoration staves are generally for healing, but your hotbar for that weapon seems to be mainly geared towards damage. Not that it's a terrible idea, but if you want to be able to provide support, you want to have more than one heal on that bar. And if you're in a group, they're going to want a dedicated healer, not just someone who damages and occasionally heals. You can definitely be a healer as a Nightblade, but you'd need to change the morphs on pretty much all your Siphoning skills.
- Speaking of healing: you have 3 self-heals on your damage spec. You really only need one (two if you absolutely can't stand it), and Leeching Strikes isn't the best choice if you plan on grouping. It is, however, an excellent choice for a healer who needs to quickly regain magicka during a fight.
- And you'll want to switch Shadowy Disguise to your dual-wield bar. It serves no purpose for staff wielding. You can't do sneak attacks with restoration staves. Ditto with Ambush. That skill is meant to close gaps for melee, and you have it on your ranged bar.
- You're missing some AoE damage, but that can always be switched in when it's needed.
This is mainly for PvE. Anyone who has more experience in PvP can feel free to comment on whether some of the changes I've talked about would be more or less useful in Cyrodiil.
Above poster covered much of what I was gonna say. Great post. Anyway my onto advice is just play the game. Your build to me says you don't really understand how everything works, which is totally ok and you have said it yourself. I was there at one point so I know. Just play and go from there. You'll have a better understanding of thing of things once you start playing. Things play out differently than they look on paper. Like with me I was set on playing NB, have him up to level 30 and decided to roll a Templar and now love the Templar, which i thought I would hate. I will say healing is sooo fun in this game. Been gaming for 25 years and have never liked healing, I tried it in eso and now I'm a healer. Anyway just pick a class you think you'll have fun with and go with it, then you'll start to build your perfect character as you play.
@nerevarine1138 - Thanks, exactly what I was after. I've been building up the restoration staff as a late addition with a view to more team play as I see people often seem to be short of healers. I'm dropping more skill points into it as I get them in the VR areas.
@METALPUNKS - Your are right, I think I have probably got a build that would have don me very nicely in Skyrim but is definitely second rate in an MMO Now I am in the VR levels I am becoming increasingly aware that the other people there seem to have a much greater ability to both deal quick damage and escape, I feel like I am not pulling my weight in group situations.
@knaveofengland - Probably good advice, I'll get there... it was a big step going into an MMO at all so baby steps
