Stuck in a quest that I can't win

I'm lvl 18 and about halfway through the Grip of Madness quest, facing hordes of lvl 18 mobs, so getting killed quite often. The only place to respawn is back in the jail cell with no possibility of ever getting repaired or spawning outside the jail. With each death my repair bill rises. Is there a way to exit this loop, and what happens when my armor is all gone?

Try logging out... waiting about 15 minutes... log back in.

Have you tried opening the map, clicking one of the zone names on the right, and teleporting to another wayshrine?

Click m to open your map. Left lick on your starting area's wayshrine and get out of there. This will cost you around 90g.

If you don't have enough gold to teleport out, try asking someone for help in zone chat. Group with them and combat it together.

I'm not familiar with this quest however so it may be a solo only.

As for your question about armor... every time you die it is damaged and lowers its armor rating. If it completely destroyed...your armor rating will be 0. You will still be able to wear the armor but not receieve it's "armor" benefits. As for enchants on the armor etc...I'm not to sure but I think you'd still receive those.

If you are a member of any guilds or have any friends you can simply right click their name in your friends list or guild roster and travel to player. This will bring you to the closest wayshrine to their location for free.

Also wanted to note the armor rating on your armor degrades with each death. After you die enough your armor will be at 0/50 or whatever the armor of the item is. You can buy 1 time use repair kits from npc vendors if you plan on going back and are worried about having the same problem again.
