Has anyone done the math of the total cost of a high level mount vs buying a low level mount and upgrading it?

I did not but you will miss 10 stat points when you buy the low level one.

The max level for a horse is 50. meaning you can only upgrade it 50 times.

If you get a horse that starts off with +10 to a stat, that really is a "level 60" horse.

Max horse level is 50 (49 upgrades, at 250, total upgrade code 12,250 gold)

The 42k horses have 10 extra point in either speed, stamina or carrying

    So the fastest horse = 25% + 49% = 74%speed, 10 stamina

I prefer the black horse, which at max level will have 64% and 20 stamina. (as I will point it all into speed)

The cheaper horse and the Imperial horse if all put into speed will have the same max speed at the black horse but 10 less stamina. 64% and 10 stamina

As now the backpack limit is only 110 slots, I also have a cheap Imperial horse that I am only add bags to, to give me an extra 50 slots carry space.

Cost of gold wise, which works out cheapest?

do the bonus stack if you buy and upgrade every horse?

If you're asking if it's cheaper to buy the cheaper horse and upgrade it vs buy the more expensive horse and not upgrade it, the first option is cheaper. Thing is the more expensive horse has higher potential stats.

Only your active horse bonus works, they all cost the same to upgrade.
I switch to my 'carrying horse' when doing dungeons to carry all the extra loot. But use my black horse for everything else.

What i mean is the cost of the cheapest horse + total upgrade cost, does it work out to be the same, cheaper or more expensive, than buying the most expensive horse + total upgrades. if the same result is the same speed or capacity wise.

You are missing the point. As people said they will not be same stat wise at the end. The expensive horse will have 10 stat points more.

Which really is no biggie, go for the horse you like. The only reason I am saving up for the painted is because my Bosmer has had her eye on it since she found it *smiled, little RP here*

The total cost to upgrade for both horses is going to be the same. The cost is only different up front. Both horses can be leveled to 50, and for both horses it will cost 250 gold per level.

The reason the more expensive horse is more expensive is because it starts with stats equivalent to a level 10 "basic" horse. The difference between the basic horses and the expensive ones is about 25k.. so you just need to decide whether 25k is worth the higher stats. Everything else between the two is going to cost the same.
