Skills mechanics and damage

I'm trying to work out the mechanics of some of the skills I use and whether weapon type affects the damage. For example Assassin's Blade does 72 magic damage; is this 72 points of damage regardless of weapon type/damage, or is 72 added to the weapon damage? If a target is struck with low health, Assassin Blade does 300% damage; again is this simply 3x72 or 3x weapon damage or both.

Similarly Veiled Strike deals 142 point of damage; again is this simply 142 damage or is weapon type/damage taken into account?

The damage is just just as it is stated. These are class skills and use magicka, therefore the damage they do is based on how large your magicka pool is.

EDIT: Which is based on your level, and any stat points you spend on magicka.

What about something like the Master Assassin passive in the NB assassin line? It says it "increases weapon damage while invisible or crouched". I hope that really means NB magical attacks as well as weapon skill line attacks, but it isnt really clear. If its just weapon skill line attacks its worthless since I never open with those.

That affects it, certainly. If I'm not mistaken though, weapon damage and spell damage (depending on the skill) play a role.

For example, the familiar skills are unusual due to how their damage scales only off your Max Magicka.

I use skills a lot in hand to hand combat, rather than just mouse attacks, and I was wondering whether there's much point in spending time developing better weapons if these have no effect on skills damage.

I'm sure that somewhere I've seen talk of a combat stats windows (which might help show this) but I'm not sure how to open it.

The passive Master Assassin skill that adamrussell52_ESO mentions is interesting too. I tend to use Veiled Strike from a sneak position as this also stuns; I also have Master Assassin, but that's going to be rather pointless if weapon damage plays no part in a Veiled Strike skill attack.
