Hybrid Templar healer/two hand sword

Hello,

I am running a hybrid templar healer build. I switch between a Two hand sword and a restoration staff and i got points in the restoring light skill line.

I build in a way that gives me a decent supply of magicka and stamina so I have a sufficient pool for healing a group in dungeons like fungal grotto or for soloing 2-3 enemies. I wear light armour with the magicka regen passives and plan to swap into some heavy armour for the health bonuses to keep me alive longer.

My issue is currently in regards to my healing output. Most of the skills are healing over time skills and I feel the numbers are too small and that causes me to really fall behind with the healing. I am landing the heals and the group is fighting in the area of my grand healing (now illustrious healing to add an extra second of heal) but I feel their health still drops too fast compared to my healing output.

I am wondering how would I change that? My restoration staff is up to date in regards to my current level. I am wondering if my level of magicka plays a role in the amount of health per heal.

Basically, how do I increase my healing ability? Is it based in level of my character or the skill? I have been also debating switching to a pure spell castor and leaving the stamina behind as well as my two hand sword and focusing on desctruction spells or using the dawn's wrath tree for damage for solo questing and pvp.

Thanks in advaince :)

If your trying to to be a the main healer, you need to focus your skill points on magicka till it's over charged. find gear that adds to your max magicka. Rings and necks that reduce the magicka cost of abilities are great too. Try keeping regeneration (2nd skill from Restoration staff) up at all times, on everyone. So use it twice in a row, since it only affects 2 people. Magicka pots are your best friend too.

Most importantly, remember you can heal damage, but you can't heal stupid. Lotta people are still learning the game as if it were their first MMO. Which it very well may be. So I'm more then confident it's not always your fault. Last thing... The first dungeon can be hard to heal. So don't base your skill as a healer on that first dungeon.

On a side note as you level up you may find you don't need all light armor. If you want, try using only 5 pieces of light (it's the recommended minimal standard) I only use 4.

Don't forget: heavy attacks with restoration staff restore 10% magicka on the last tick.

Also, don't equip than 2 pieces of heavy armor.

If the party takes too much damage it's perhaps because they do something wrong. Circle of protection could help if people pay attention to stand inside it. Also great because it's a stamina skill.

I am currently using http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/mageplarerlex-pve-templar/ and it is quite a good templar healer.

    Key thing as healer:
    * As mention above, restoration staff heavy attack give you 10% of your magicka
    * As a templar healer you have something that other class healer don't. The instant burst heal "Breath of Life". It is your "oh crap" button that i found myself quite often used (there are always someone can't dodge those big aoe from the boss).
    * Also as someone mention before, wear light armor for the cost reduction on magicka usage. if you are being a full time healer in dungeon you can wear 7 pieces of light armor for extra benefit from light armor. you don't have to wear them outside of dungeon when solo, but always bring extra cloth for grouping.
    * Another thing is Heal Over Time seem to stack, it doesn't hurt to stack few HoT on the main tank, you can always recover the magicka from heavy attack anyway.

@jacky- ---- how can we confirm that hots stack? I have seen no evidence of this and any buff addon is just an estimation since the devs have not coded for the release of buffs/debuffs to addons (known issue apparently).

unless ofc you mean stack the Hots of different abilities then yes. otherwise I don't see any way of stacking multiples of the same skill.

I stack my AoE HoTs like a Saturday morning plate of flapjacks. It's extremely effective, almost too effective. Last couple of dungeon runs I barely saw any red bars dip, let alone get low.

This is cool though, because so far I've been in full healbot mode, and I want to start mixing it up a bit.

I use FoundryTacticalCombat and if the display of data is accurate (which i assume it is, but correct if i am wrong).

if i put one HoT on someone, then if i immediate put another HoT again. you can see the healing done is twice as much as single HoT. beside that i can't really confirm it

Wow! Thanks for all the replies. I was beginning to think my post was being ignored and no one had any advice.

I do agree that it is not always my fault. Sometimes I get killed and the rest of the group just dies fast because of it. That is because all the monsters comes after me instead of them so clearly the attack was wrong. My only experience so far is the three beginner dungeons (spindleclutch, the zombie one, and fungal grotto) The healing doesnt seem to bad in terms of the mechanics but I do feel like it depends if the group is on par with what is going on.

I usually use my area heal the most as opposed to the second skill in the line. That was mostly due because of my unease of the "duration of 20 seconds" and I was feeling that may be too slow. I will start using it more to see if it benefits more. I am currently using the area skill because it does a moderate heal every second for 4 seconds. I felt more comfortable with that one so I have been spamming that one and using the first skill in restoration light from templar skill line as an emergency heal.

Another thing that was concerning me is that I initially rolled as an imperial but then switched over to dark elf (dunmer) because I wanted to take advantage of the magicka bonus. Plus I also switched over to heal later (with an expensive respec) so my skills were low in level for my current level. But as an imperial I was getting through dungeons fine. I think its because of the health bonus that kept me alive more. But my survivability probably still depends on the group right? I shouldnt be getting wacked by the enemies and being considered a threat as a healer?

I also currently have the ritual mundus stone on my guy. I am guessing I should get the mage. That should overcharge the stat for me right?
