Hirelings everyday

devestaterdawnb14_ESO
Now in the description for hirelings is says that the hireling will send you things every day. Ok, now I have been gone for 5 days I log on and I have 4 things in my mail, just 4. That should have been 20, not 4. Is this game really that cheap? I have to log in every day? If so you need to change the description for hirelings to reflect the NEED for you to log in.

I am asking if this game is that cheap. This is a game with dungeon you die 20x in and only get 3 shards for the run. I have never seen a game work so hard to kill its self. Well you lost another. That was the final straw for me. I have canceled my sub. Good luck to you all.

Of all the things to quit over... you choose the fact that you have to log in every day to get your rewards? Pretty sure daily login rewards have been around for a long time...

Wow what dungeons are you running that have 3 skyshards in them, must run those..

If your reliant for crafting anything because of a hireling then your missing the point.

[sarcasm]Also just to let you know that the game will also take a subscriber day from you even if you don't log in. I know insane isn't it..[/sarcasm]

Although I an not too concerned with having to logon everyday (as I generally do), I do find it annoying that I have to swap between all of my characters that have hirelings in order to get the loot.

Mail is account wide and as that is how you get the items it doesnt not make much sense that I have to log on each character to get these mails.

It is sad to see people rage quit over something so trivial. Even if you got the 4 days of stuff, chances are it would be like 4x3=12 pieces (give or take) and maybe an upgrade item or two.

In the time it took you to go to the account window and cancel the subscription then come here and whine about it, you probably could have found that much material and gotten some experience and gold to boot.

Further, last time I checked there is only 1 skyshard in a dungeon and the chances of dying in most dungeons is pretty slim, so if you are dying 20 times then perhaps you should revisit your skill choices and combat strategy.

@Era yes mail is account wide but why should you be able to get something from a character who hasn't bought the hireling passive in that way?

Yes you can inter character trade. But how is allowing direct access to this passive any different from trying to say justify why a different character has to learn a trait on an item when another alt has already done it?

@lupinemw I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I have for example blacksmithing on one character, clothier on another, both with hirelings. In order to get the loot i must log on to the blacksmith (wait for the mail), then log on to the clothier (wait for the mail) rinse and repeat for each character with the passive. This was why I was suggesting that its rather painful, especially as mail is account wide. I do understand your point though

@Era Leave your blacksmith in one of the buildings that has a lot of desks, cabinets, trunks, and that sort of thing. While you are waiting for the mail, just loot the stuff and get some materials and maybe a recipe or motif. There are some bank areas that have a density of that sort of thing. I have 3 characters who have hirelings, and that's what I do.

It is true, mail is account wide, but the character variables are not. Unless you log into a character, the game has no way to determine what is going on with that character. It would be complex and require a major (like more work than it's worth) rewrite to link character skills for something like hirelings.

The only account-wide option would be to make hirelings account-wide which would mean 1 per account, not a potential of 8 per account. I'm sure there would be plenty of people that would be upset over that change.

This is a legit issue...its says daily and you should get 1 mail per day! I have a crafting toon that I don't necessarily log into everyday, but I expect him to still get the stuff in the mail everyday, that's why I spent the *** skill points!!! I agree with the OP, if it's not that then reword the tooltip, so people don't waste skill points, or at least can decide properly. All you self interested *** laughing are morons...just coz it doesn't affect you doesn't make it laughable. I agree it's not something to quit over, but grow up and only comment with constructive feedback clowns.

I don't have an issue with logging in daily to receive the rewards. I do, however, have an issue with having to log in every 12 hours to receive both bags when you get to 3/3 hireling.

That's actually a very good point. Not everyone is going to be logging on twice twelve hours apart.

Then again, a quick fix would be to simply stop at 2/3 hireling if you know your not going to be logging on that often.

I agree that the description needs to be changed to state that the time is based on when the player logs in that character and not that the hireling will give crafting items at a set time ie every 12hrs.
Also the way this is set up it actually penalizes players if they can't log in every 12 hours and have spent points to upgrade to 3/3. It should be made clear before they put the point into it.

I suppose they could have a background process that scans the database for a hireling status > 0 and adds the username, hireling type and hireling level to a table, then blasts out emails based on that table.

The only thing I can see is that assuming a conservative 200,000 accounts with an average of 3 characters per account, and an average of 2 hirelings per character, that is like 1.2m emails. Sent out at a pace that will not lag or crash the servers, that could take half the day by itself. Assuming 10 mails a second (which seems kind of liberal with everything else going on with the mail sever) it would take about 33 hours to get 1.2m emails sent. If they increase that to 30 mails they could obviously do it in about 11 hours.

It is easier and less system intensive to do it this way.

Yes, btw, they could have it check how many days it has been since you last logged in and give you all the hireling deliveries then... but what if you haven't logged in for 6 months, that's 180 days which would way overflow the mail, especially if you had 5-6 hirelings...

I'm for a couple of changes. The first change is to reduce the restart timer from 24 hours to 20 hours. My reasoning is simple, if I log on at 5:30pm every day to play the game, each day the time will continue to creep upward, 5:30, 5:31, 5:32, etc... Eventually, if I don't play past say 7:00 within 90 days of playing the timer will move past my stop time and I will either have to continue to play later or lose a day (gasp, the horrors). Anyhow, at 20 hours every time I log on at 5:30 there it will be. It just seems to be more fair than every 24 hours and doesn't really help people too much who actually log in every 20 hours to get their stuff. Even 22 hours would be cool.

The other change would be to change all of the hirelings to the tooltip message that is given in the provisoner profession. It actually stats pretty clearly, "When you go offline, a hireling will find Food or Drink ingredients for you. Your hireling can be used every 24 hours."

I think that simple tooltip change would clear up a lot of confusion.

I don't like this must log in to claim it as well, but I certainly do not like many other things in life and I adapt if it is not serious which in this case isn't...
