Need help understanding Softcap

okay, so I just reached lvl 50/VR1, and I have reached the softcap on my spell resist. My issue is after hitting this softcap, I find that spell damage is almost one shooting me. So it takes half my health if not more.

So my question is. Do softcaps cause this type of issue once reached?

No.

Softcap doesn't mean you can't stack more of it. It means you get less returns. But even if you get more, it's a GOOD thing.

Also, in veteran rank, if you don't block/interrupt/dodge charge up spells like caster swirling fire attacks, or necromancer channels on minions, and ESPECIALLY throwing knives, you will likely lose a third or more of your health, regardless of being at the softcap.

Eating more than one Throw Knife charge up attack is usually a death sentence while fighting a pack of mobs at veteran rank. Same applies for caster charge up attacks.

In veteran ranks you need to play aggressively. You gotta move constantly to keep mobs repositioning and thus attacking you less. You gotta quickly take out mobs as most of them will easily overwhelm passive defense/healing. You gotta time your blocks, interrupts, and dodges perfectly.

And usually a pack of more than 4 will kill you if you don't use an ultimate.

Spamming armor skills and playing passively may have gotten you through with leveling, but in veteran ranks outside of playing broken shield bash builds or DK/Templar aoe cheese, you need to be quick about engagements and use skills wisely.

This has helped me a great deal. Now i'm wondering if my build needs to be tweaked.

The toon I have at VR1 is a, Dark Elf Templar using a 2H weapon. I was looking to make him as close as possible to a Ret pally.

This is my sepc, I was using a restro staff at one point. but I really don't want to be DPS and Heals. I was looking to just dps, so I respec'ed to the build below. Now i'm putting out far more DPS now, then with the 2H/restro staff build.

So really I don't have a great deal in the way of ranged attacks other then, the class abilities I have. I just need to know if this build will work for PvE & PvP.
