Im seriously getting behind my quests lvl wise (lvl 14)

Sup, just joined ESO.

Im on my lvl 14 wood elf nightblade.
And Im seriously getting behind my quests, more and more.

1) I've scouted every part of Audiron and done all quests here. And I seriously mean every single quest and every explorable part (I rarely do dungeons). Constantly 2-3 levles behind everything, but as a stabbing NB it has worked so far.

2) I didn't forget anything on Khenarti earlier either. Scouted that area and did all quests. Every single one.

3) It got to the point that I saved Haven in Grahtwood at lvl 13. Just to be able to get any form of xp. And that is a couple of levels above me. Think its like lvl 16 or something.

Now Im stuck at lvl 14 with only lvl 19-20 quests in Grahtwood.

So a serious question: are you actually forced to grind the dungeons to play this game or can you actually play it solo?

Because Im starting to doubt it. Its getting a bit tiresome.

Currently just standing in Vulkhel Guard not knowing where to go or what to do to get to the next level. Maybe kill crabs?

Sorry to break it to you but that's partially problematic even up to VR1, and even beyond there as well. I was around 42 when I went for Coldharbour, was 48 when all the quests were done, so I had over 1 level to grind out.

Top tip; make sure you do all the dolmens and all the elites in each zone at least once. The dolmens in particular have a nifty amount of XP to give if you manage to get some hits in. Though at lower levels, monsters die quickly so I suggest just get some AoE abilities and run around spamming things. I tracked it and you get around 8-10% per dolmen you complete and around 5-8% per elite you kill. Also do all the public dungeons as the end boss grants some nice XP as well. Should help a bit on less grinding. Though, more than once you'd enter a new zone around 1 to 2 levels below it's "normal" level cap.

No idea what you guys are talking about. I've been at least two or three levels ahead of my quests since I left Khenarthi's Roost. I just entered Reapers March yesterday at level 42 and they are only now beginning to come back in line with my level.

I have been doing like, everything though. I try not to leave a zone until I've cleared everything and collected everything there is to collect.

I have never had this problem. I have always been several levels ahead of all my quests. Of course, I fight everything, I look for treasure chests (you DID know you get substantial exp for opening a locked treasure chest, right?), I do all subquests, etc. This is not in just one area. I have alts in every alliance, and I am consistently 2-4 levels above almost every quest available in the area. My only suggestion is that you are not doing everything you can, and are just rushing through. Stop trying to power-level and just enjoy the game.

I have to agree with Glurin. Right now I'm at the end of the last zone for my faction and 3-4 levels or more above content. For a while I stopped gaining exp and loot. Since I am a healer I have gained no or very little exp from dungeons. I have all quest and exploration achievements up to the zone I am in now though.

I don't understand how it's possible to lag behind like that.

I guess it might be a good thing to equip some area of effect skills and blast away when you have the chance. Mobs give decent exp. Other than that... Locals such as bosses and dolmens are a nice boost.

Edit: I play solo in all cases except group dungeons.

You should find the thread from the player asking for reduction in xp cause he levels to easily. Basically exploration and always killing everything you come across will do it. Doing only quests and rushing straight from quest to quest will have you under leveled.

As to exploration. I was short completing a zone and looking, when I would come across NPC's who gave xp just for talking to them right then and there, who knew. And just riding through higher level zones and marking way shrines gives a decent amount of xp. I've seen level 8s exploring in level 38 areas.

I consider myself a crawl speed leveler since I vacuum every area for quests. But I don't do group dungeons, ever. Unless Im begged to.

Ok. Ive seen the initial responses and will have to think this over. Maybe its not a game for me then.

Too bad, I was looking forward to some pvp. I usually pvp quite a lot.

It happens...sometimes I will be a few levels behind, especially when traveling to a new zone, but you will catch back up. Seems to happen to me everytime I finish a zone. The great thing about this game though is that with a thoughtful build, being a few levels behind isn't too big of a deal. I find the fights to be more challenging and its a great way to really learn the combat mechanics. Plus your xp bar fills up quite fast when turning in quests above your level. Don't forget that there are lots of other players around too. You rarely fight mobs 1v1.

I went to the second zone of EP, Deshaan, 1-2 level under normal one, mostly because I didn't find all quests (didn't thoroughly search for them either) and I didn't do the tutorial isle.

Since then, I went back for the lore and skyshard at around lvl 16 and still got half a level XP. I also collected skyshard and some missing quests in the first zone. Now I am at the end of my 3Rd zone, Shadowfen and I am already 1-2 level above the higher level mobs. I could go to the next zone but still have some quests missing.

Check your achievements list and see how many quests you are missing, I couldn't do 2 quests in Deshaan and now I am still overleveled but sometimes I see 5-7 level lower people doing the same quests as me.

Once, I helped a guy in Deshaan 5 level lower than me to kill an elite, for whom even I haven't had the quest yet, and I told him he is underleveled. Told him he should go back to previous zone to complete missing quests, he said no he is good luck, development messed up the xp. I just said 'ok' and went to my business.

You are missing quests and other XP opportunities.

I am not grinding or anything even close to it. I am doing all the quests that one finds by heading off into the bushes and looking under the rocks, though.

One tip someone else had. Go on foot, or horse, and do not use the wayshrines. Do not walk around mobs in your travels. Kill them. You do not have to hunt for them, if you walk through the wilderness, they will find you.

Have to agree with former posters that you're likely missing a lot of experience along the way from quests and such.

You really have to pay attention to the world, and the map. If you just follow the main trail you'll miss out on so many opportunities.

One of the screensavers while logging in says, "Sometimes, just pick a direction and start running!" or so. Wise words. You'll find yourself outleveling your quests in short order, and discovering some goodies along the way.

I have been over level for every quest up to 42 so far. Sounds like you are just running around from quest to quest and nothing else. You really should be killing random mobs here and there, searching for and opening chests(lot of xp here) doing anchors more than once.

Do you have the achievement for completing all quests in Auridon?

If you use stealth a lot, you will always be under level. A bit annoying that really since being sneaky should be an option for completing quests. That happens in every game now though. They should scale quest completion xp with mobs killed in the quest area, so if you kill few, you get more xp for the hand in, to reward clever or sneaky play.

This would just encourage people to run by all the mobs even more than they do now. Nothing upsets me more than seeing someone enter a public dungeon and then just sprint by all the mobs kill the last one grab the skyshard and then run out. Then I see them on the next zone complaining that they are to low to finish the quests.... well no *** idiot.

Find yourself a nice clutch of mobs a few levels below you, someplace where they're plenty and close together. Then farm.
I've done that a few times and made sure I never enter a zone over-level after the first few mistakes. (just got into Coldharbour at lvl 44.75 -nice)
'Clever' sigs get old real fast - just like this one.

So a serious question: are you actually forced to grind the dungeons to play this game or can you actually play it solo?

I have 2 characters I play right now, one that I play only with my friend, and another I solo with when he'd not around.

When I play with my friend we kill everything in sight as we go from one quest objective to the next. With this style of play we find ourselves moving on to the next zone long before all the quests are done.

When I solo on my other character, I still kill a lot of stuff between objectives, but a lot of fights simply aren't worth the trouble if there aren't a bunch of players around. With this guy I'm finding I'm doing most of the quests in each zone, and all of the area events... sky anchors, world bosses, dungeons (both open world and instanced). But I've never ran out of content before I'm ready to move on to the next zone.

I can see if you were to play a sneaky character that lurks in the shadows from objective to objective, you very well might run out of quests. I don't know why you'd want to skip the dungeons though, especially the open world ones, there's a skyshard in each one.

Don't forget about guild quests... that could make up the difference for you.
