What decides which Armor type I receive from the CE chests?

Up until Vet Rank 2 I was receiving heavy armor, and since then I've only received light armor. How can I make it go back to heavy?

I could be mistaken but I think it's up to the whims of RNG. I've always received random loot from these chests, which may or may not be appropriate to my build.

I always seem to get loot that is designed for my build. It's never been purely random. That's with the CE chests. The other treasure chests that you get from dropped maps are extremely random. I've opened several and haven't ever gotten anything truly useful. Could be just me though.

Talking of which, since we get only one map for each zone, does keeping them for VR zones worth it? Can we still find them with level appropriate loot?

I have characters in all 3 factions and so far 3/3 maps in DC gave me blue loot, but 2/2 AD and 2/2 EP was just greens.

@Csub Yes, CE treasure chests will give you VR leveled loot when you're in a VR zone, but it's still going to be scaled to the zone level, not your character level.
Just like any other treasure chest.

Pure random luck. Why else would my sorcerer who hasn't ever trained sword and shield find a purple shield?

Oh great, thanks! I will open them when i get the chance and make sure i am not too high level/rank by then. I will also keep the remaining ones form EP for future characters if I ever decide to make characters in other factions (which I think I will).
