What Am I?

I know I am a Wood Elf Dragon Knight, but the question goes a bit farther than that. I have been going along my merry way just applying points on a whim. Other than two dungeons I have been running solo. I see people asking for a tank, healer, DPS or whatever and I'm not sure where I fit in as a group player. So far there hasn't been much call for 'lone idiot frog killer'. I have been for the most part using staffs a destruction staff a bit more that the other. Just recently I happened upon a decent looking dagger so I put two daggers in my 2nd weapon set. Not sure if I should build that up more or just stick to using my staffs. Either way would work for my style of play as I tend to draw my target in, knock them down and then either stab like hell or throw fire like a madman. The stabbing as I mentioned is something new.
So the questions (two of them now instead of one) are:

What am I with my current build?
Should I work more with daggers or no?

And any other comments appreciated.

I'd generally call you "DPS" for dungeons, since it doesn't sound like you focused on healing very much in your build.

In general, when people say "tank," then mean someone who is going to soak up damage and keep boss attention on themselves (generally, you'll at least have to use a 1h/shield build for this). A "healer" is responsible for keeping the group alive through healing unavoidable damage (the group should not be getting hit by avoidable damage). And "DPS" is an abbreviation for "damage-per-second" which became a popular way to refer to damage dealers. Your job is to do as much damage as possible to a target while also avoiding any avoidable damage coming your way.

You aren't using heavy armor or 1h/shield for taunting so you aren't a tank.
You only have one heal on the restoration staff, and its extremely hard to heal a dungeon with only 1 healing ability.

So therefor you are DPS! yay.

If you aren't clearly tank or heals you're dps by default really.

Looking through the build he linked, there was only 1 heal he leaned on the resto staff tree, this is what I was referring to.

Just to give you an example, I am a Nightblade, wearing full Heavy Armor, 1h+Shield (for the taunt) and 2h as weapon swaps (for the dps). I focus on health regen class skills abilities, damage mitigation and debuffs (Siphon Tree/assasination tree). I tank dungeons, and i advertise myself as such, but only after i kinda figured out what that meant I was a Caster Nightblade for a long time, but the DPS in this game is sooo many compared to tanks and healers. Wanted to be a little more useful

That's true of most MMOs. Most people don't enjoy the added pressure and constant blame from their group if things go wrong. Speaking as someone who loves healing, this game gets wearing when people from certain-MMOs-which-shall-remain-unnamed start complaining about how they died to abilities that they weren't interrupting or avoiding at all.

I'm hell on rats and chickens also. Kind of upset I can't at least knock peoples monkeys back a few feet with a good fireball though.

So should I start working on the daggers or concentrate maybe on the restoration staff? I liked healing in Final fantasy XI but even then preferred solo to being in a group. Was kind of fun sitting on a hill though watching a lower level group fight and just step in with some quick heals if they got in real deep.

When I do get in a group I just want to be able to contribute my fair share how ever that may be. Solo I am like a puppy chasing a ball. If a leaf blows by in front of me I'm off after the leaf right up to when I see the squirrel and so on.

It'll be hard, at first, to sink into one of those stereotypical dungeon roles.

A lot of the experienced dungeon delvers are looking for tanks who are tanky, healers who can heal everything all the time non-stop, and dps that pour out endless fountains of damage without ever standing in fire.

Most of those will be the typical min/maxers that you find in any game. It seems like you're just having fun doing your own thing. I'd stick with that. It may be difficult for you to find a group from time to time, but the important thing is that you're having fun!

To keep any of the pressure off yourself, I'd suggest advertising yourself as DPS. Eventually, after a few more dungeon crawls, maybe you'll find a role that you want to sink into 100%. Or, perhaps you'll always enjoy spreading your skills around and dabbling in different things.

Either way is great, as long as you're having fun doing it
