Question about crafting research

Elder_Soul
Ok, so I get the concept behind researching enhancements, however, I noticed that different level weapons have different levels of enhancements (i.e., a level 1 axe may have 2% for whatever, but a level 6 axe may have 4% for the same enhancement). My question is do you have to wait for the highest level weapons to get the best enhancements?

My point is that once you research an enhancement, you can't then research that same one if you find better stats on a different weapon. So, I haven't been researching because I don't want to "waste" researching a lower enhancement. Am I making sense?

Also, I noticed that stones have their own stats. So, it seems like if I research some enhancement with 2% whatever, a stone might give it better or worse stats. Am I correct on this or totally off base? Second part to stones... I have a ton of level 1 stones, are there different stones that give better stats as you level up? I am only at level 8 currently on my char.

If there is a guide or something in the wiki that someone can point me to, that would be great. I haven't had much success searching these topics online.

Thanks for your time.

You WANT to use the lowest level item with the trait for research --- once you know the trait for the item, that's it. So use the lowest level, lowest-quality item that has the trait to learn it. There are even UI addon mods that have color flags to let you know that if you have to items with the same trait, the lower level one is the one you want to save for research, and the higher level/quality one is the one you want to Decon.

I ~think~ that the Trait stones are fixed regardless of item level or quality. That is, a bloodstone is a bloodstone is a bloodstone, regardless of what you put it into.

I use the lowest level to do my research with. The % increases the higher the level of product you make. So at level 1 it will always be let's say 2%, if you upgrade it to a blue or beyond it can also increase the %, as will changing the level of the item being crafted.

Oh, so researching is "just" to unlock the enhancement? And the stone is what gives it it's stats?

I was thinking that whatever enhancement stat was on the weapon that was what I was "researching".

Ok, this is making more sense now. I was "over thinking" the research part.

Thanks for the replies so far. If anyone has anything more useful to add, please do.

The only really useful thing I can think of adding to your knowledge of crafting would be.

If you upgrade your trait so you can research 2 or 3 items at a time, those items can not be of the same type.
So you cant reasearch 2 shileds at the same time, you will have to research 1 shield and 1 other woodtype item.
We're born, we live, we die. And along the way, you do the best with whatever crap you step in :p

Motivation alone is not enough. If i had an idiot with me and i motivated him, then i will have a motivated idiot to do stuff :s

Definitely worth investing in. The 8th trait on an item is going to take approximately 32 days of research. Three points into the skill that increases items you can research at once and reduces research time will net you the ability to research 3 items at once, and reduce research time by 20%.

32 days is a long time, but I kind of like it. Means no one person is going to be able to craft all the higher end sets in the game for everything (or not for a very long time anyway), so people are going to have to find folks that "specialize" in the armor piece they're looking for. Kinda diversifies when we can otherwise do all the things on one character.

About six more weeks. Then you'll have your folks with 3 items fully researched.

Which, looking at the high end craftable sets, is all you really need to get the set bonuses. Mix + match two sets for the three piece bonuses when you finish the second set of 3.

Right.. that's one set bonus though, of three that require 8 traits. That's also six weeks, which is a fairly long time in an MMO. I didn't say people would never have them, just that it's gonna take a long time for them to do. In all likelihood, if you're looking for very specific stuff you're going to have to go to multiple crafters for it, which is where it helps to diversify the market. You're gonna have to find the crafter that has specifically what you're looking for. Correct piece with the correct trait and all that.

With the 20% reduction it's a total of 51 days for all 8 traits to be researched, can do 3 items at once, and assuming you've invested the skill points possibly 9 items at once. To max everything (which is what I was referring to, you'd need everything at 8 to be able to make a set piece out of anything) you'd literally need 255 days of research. So you'd have to have been subscribed for almost an entire year.
