Thieves?

I was thinking about this recently.

Wouldn't it be cool if ZOS some how managed to implement a pickpocket system in-game. Whether it was just NPC's or something. You didn't have those materials you needed, you could always try and pickpocket them from the Enchater in Daggerfall. At a price of course. Who doesn't miss hearing "STOP! You've violated the law!". This is clearly not a incredibly tangible idea, but I think that it would be a pretty cool edition because I sure do love a good pickpocket.

If I remember correctly, the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood are going to be added to the game later. That's been confirmed, but they never said exactly when.

I would love that! Getting moved to gaol and having to pay the fine! Hehe... :)

The thieves guild has been confirmed, and a criminal system has been confirmed. Just google it for the sites.

I remember watching or reading a developer from Skyrim discuss why there wasn't multiplayer in Skyrim. I'm just paraphrasing here, something I don't even remember if I watched or read, so don't take this as any sort of direct quote...

Adding multiplayer required too many concessions that impacted the single player aspect of the game and ultimately we decided to focus on creating the best possible single player experience.

Again, not a direct quote, but that was the gist of it. They didn't want to compromise the quality of the single player experience to hack on some multiplayer. As much as I wanted multiplayer, I saw their point and had to agree with them. Yet the entire time I played Skyrim I dreamed of exploring its beautiful lands and battling the forces of evil inhabiting them with my friends by my side.

Now we have Elder Scrolls Online and we can do just that, kinda, sorta, for the most part. As the Skyrim developer said above (kinda, sorta, for the most part), the single player game Skyrim that everyone knows and loves, wouldn't have been the Skyrim everyone knows and loves if it were multiplayer, it would have been something different, some aspects people love would have been less or non-existent.

Elder Scrolls Online isn't Skyrim. It's better and it's worse, but mostly it's just different.

Now, I know the OP of this thread was just saying wouldn't it be cool if... and certainly didn't scream, "OMG! NO STEALING!?!?!? THIS GAME IS TEH SUXORZ!" However, I felt this response is relevant to both threads and I'd rather bump OP's wouldn't it be cool if... thread than that other guy's give me da stealz now! thread.

Pickpocketing is fine, so long as they're only NPC pockets being picked. Already enough jerkwads in the game -- scammers, gold sellers, and bots -- don't need to legalize player vs. player thievery.

I think pickpocketing players would be awesome, just limit what they can steal. Maybe only up to 20g, and once they do, or if caught, the player can attack them. Put a level difference on them, so level 50s couldn't go around picking level 10s all day long. maybe only someone the same level or a bit less. Better yet, if the other player gets a sudden, short timer, option to press a key to catch the guy picking him, the pickpocket becomes attackable by everyone in town. Would never happen, but my god that would be awesome.

As long as i am given the opportunity to cut both your hands (in game of course) permanently and use them as an ashtray, im fine with pickpocketing.

@Kyosji Sweet mother of God, just imagine a pickpocket making a mistake in a highly populated town and the heads of every character turns their head and slaughters the pickpocket.

The title of this thread got me thinking... you know, I haven't once been robbed on the road in this game (well, robbery attempted). Almost doesn't seem like Elder Scrolls without that.

Yeah, nothing says Elder Scrolls like a bandit in ragged leathers and a ratty sword threatening someone in full ebony armor with a massive sword in hand...

I can imagine the fun. Instead of gold farmers farming dungeon bosses, you would have 60 bots on a corner, all pickpocketing every character that walked by.

I hope they implement a crime system. Pickpocket, stealing, murder etc... like in other ES games.

Get caught pay a fine or go to jail (which you can try to escape from) or run. Towns should have guards which would attack you on site for a set period of time or unless you have a disguise handy.

Also Vamps should NOT be allowed in town, they should have had their own content (quests etc...) and keeps to hang out in.

A Vampire at stage 1 is ok to blend in with normal folk, but by stage 4 Vamps should become PvP anywhere in the world.

I'm thinking more of an Assasins Creed kind of theiving and murder. I feel like the way that it's played would be much easier to implement into a MMO. You have a radar that lets you know how suspicious you are to the guards and too bystanders. You have little groups of people you can hid in when you're out of sight. Hay carts, benches, and other really obvious hiding spots. I think that would make more sense, cause in that game you can't really do anything without a intense parkour chance through the city.

More thievery shenanigans with npcs would be a fantastic edition. I have to confess to being a bit over excited when I discovered I could rob the caravan vendors!

After selling them all of my junk of course. :p
