So right now on my sorcerer i have the first summons, and the ability to morph it.
I was wanting to know what summons other sorcerers use and why they use it, and what situations they use them specifically for?

I think most people would recommend the Clannfear, from what I’ve heard the exploding Scamps are pretty useless & most of the time you’ll want the Clannfear to agro & keep mobs off you.

clannfear is a pretty good tank up to early VR's, where i am at the moment.
I use him for soloing, when i dont want to CC
Because he is hell bent on breaking every mez and every root

I've actually been saved by an exploding scamp on a boss fight .. so was pretty happy I had chosen that morph!...
Imagine my suprise when I was two inches away from dying when the whole fight finishes behind me... I turn around to notice my skimp is gone and the boss is dead... WOOHOO! WTGexplodingsamp!

Depends on what level you are at. The pet summons are pretty strong to begin with, become fairly meh at mid levels, then get one-shotted at high levels. They take up additional bar space once you get your additional bar (level 15), which with two pets and another toggle or two (like bound armor or magelight) gives you little bar space to play with. Then, they are a liability when it comes to CC and they can't be focused on a specific enemy - so they are not liked in dungeons.

For these reasons, those who use pets at all tend to get the clannfear early and at some point switch to the volatile imp which can be used as an aoe nuke (since the pets themselves become wanting). Those who don't plan on using the volatile imp (toggled on and off to cause the imp to explode) and have looked ahead tend to realise they will not be using pets past mid-level; the experience those skills soak up could instead be used by other skills, so a lot of people who look ahead don't bother with pets at all.

Clannfear is the definitely the best choice. Problem is, lets say you encounter 3 mob packs where one is a healer and 2 is DD, at this moment we cant order the clannfear to actually either : Attack a specific target thereby aggroing that specific target, and make the clannfear make the 1st move into an enemy pack

Clanfear is good for one thing and that thing can often be fulfilled by a volatile familiar under many circumstances. While the familiar cannot tank a VR boss for long (it'll last anywhere from 2-3 hits -- more if you take care of it) it can AoE down entire packs keeping your group and yourself safe as it does stun.

So, no, clanfear is not the best choice and it is often suboptimal.

At vr7 content, i still find Clannfear to be a useful tank in those fights where i can't just cc spam the boss to death.
It will die fast, but then it's a cheap instant summon.
And with constant healing you can keep it alive even through fairly hard hitting solo bosses.

99% of the time, i have no daedra up, but in those instances when i encounter hardsolo bosses, i find Unstable Clannfear and Restoring Twilight to be awesome.

    Only level 28. Probably will not be so useful at VR levels but;

I use the winged guy. I HoT up me and my pet with my resto spell, put a Daedric Curse on the first mob, that tells my twilight which one to zap and he draws aggro because I have not actually damaged the mob yet. Then I deal with the other (normally) 2 mobs in the pull.

After I finish off the two I pulled the twilight usually has the first mob about dead, or my pet dies and a half dead mob is left for me.

I have also found when I get in trouble with a more boss type mob, if I stop DPS for a bit to get back some health, the twilight will do his lighting bolt and draw aggro off me. He does it better for me than the Clannfear. I usually find the time to resummon if the mob kills my pet and turns towards me.

He is squishy (not to bad when healed though) but actually hits pretty hard with his ranged spell. I do not like the other pets because they have to close to melee before doing any damage.

However, blowing up the volatile is a hard hitting AoE, probably our best.

A maxed out Twilight Matriarch[the one that heals you at 30% health] has saved my life more times than I'm embarrassed to admit.

Certain bosses favor having volatile familiar out in VR, funny how that works, there's one that comes to mind in Fungal Grotto.
  • ahampelb14_ESO
I might consider if they lowered the threat the pets cause. Maybe make the twilight stay back more.

Clannfear and Matron flying-thingy for me. As the clannfear is a surprisingly good tank and the matron flying-thingy heals you for A LOT.
