Do I enchant before or after upgrading?

Let's say I make a level 50 dagger(white) and I want to enchant it. Should I enchant it as a white and then upgrade it to purple, or do I upgrade it to purple first and then enchant it? Does it make a difference? Would the enchantment get stronger as the item is upgraded?

It will not make a difference in the end. The enchantment will get stronger as the quality of the dagger goes up, but it will adjust to the same scaling if placed on the item after upgrades. Personally I recommend enchanting after the item has been upgraded so that if you fail upgrading, you don't lose the enchant. If you always improve at 100% chance, then order doesn't matter.

I recall someone in zone chat complaining about a 100% chance improvement failing. Could have been a glitch. So, best to enchant after... just in case.

Yeah, I don't think it is genuinely 100%, but to be honest I prefer it not having a 100% for success as it makes these weapons that much more valuable.

Either way, the wording needs to be changed to reflect the true success rate.

As @Kuratla‌ says, it's better to add the enchants after you have reached the desired grade before applying the enchants.

One thing I have always done (when I craft in MMOs that have the possibility of breaking said item on upgrades), is to only upgrade an item only when I have an equivalent ready.

For example, I would not consider upgrading a purple to a gold unless I had another purple as a backup if the item broke.

I failed at what I thought was 100% before, but it may not have been at 100% when I pressed the upgrade button (I didn't check what was listed in the warning window).

After that, I was upgrading another item to 100%, and was doing everything slowly to make sure it wasn't a mistake I was making. I added the items to bring the success rate to 100%, and then while I was looking over everything to make sure I did it all right, I watched the 100% fall back down to 20% all on its own, without me pressing anything. Ive watched it do that several times. I think that's where the bug lies.

So now when Im upgrading, I make sure the final warning window says 100% before I press the final upgrade button, and I haven't failed at 100% since then.

Yeah, I had an item fail at 100%... Or at least it was set at 100% but as I was clicking the upgrade button I saw it drop down to 20% (it was pretty much exactly at the same time, so I didn't react fast enough to stop myself from clicking), and it only used 1 temper up instead of 5. So bottom line: upgrade first just in case it fails.
