So I finally hit VR1 yesterday, and went to my first veteran area. I usually craft my own gear so I'll always have good stuff. Well I noticed that I could craft lvl 50 Ebony gear, and VR1 Calcinium gear. What's the difference besides a color change and different glyphs? Why is lvl 50 gear even an option?

I just figured it was some oversight or just trying to keep it consistent. Calcinium is veteran rank, ebony is not, it would be weird I guess for ebony to end at 48.
I'd guess some of its leftovers from before Veteran Ranks were in the game. As of a month ago all of the VR mobs were still dropping level 50 uniques instead of their matching VR level items.

I think this is probably the most likely reason.
And it doesn't hurt that it gives you two totally different style choices for the same tier of armor/weapons.
It just sucks because I crafted a full set of blue ebony lvl 50 gear, only to realize I could have crafted Calcinium. So I ended up crafting a full set of blue VR1 gear because I'm OCD like that, lol. So I wasted a bunch of Honing Stones and Dwarven Oils

I upgraded my white level 50 gear to green, because I felt I was getting whipped in ColdHarbor with the three pulls. Now, the VR2 gear looks like it has the same stats and I am pretty much cruising on the single pulls in Glenumbra . Any reason other than cosmetic to up my gear to VR2?
Power level to CP160 in a week:
Where is the end game? You just played it.
Why don't I have 300+ skill points? Because you skipped content along the way.
Where is new content? Sigh.
Back In the days i.e about 3 months ago a few weeks after the launch level 50 was a thing. You leveled to 50 then you had to kill the final boss to get to VR1. I played more than half of Coldharbor as a level 50. They didn't change the gear after. The level 50 gear was of course identical to VR1 but Vr1 couldn't be equipped.
