forced exploration order

after i complete all quests on stonefalls i decided to jump to shadowfen. now, after a long time on shadowfen i decided to play on deshaan and i just found out that i'm no longer rewarded for any killing, not even one single gold coin ever drops. looks like on exploring shadowfen before deshaan i lost all the chance to get dropped items from killings. is this a bug or we are really penalized if we decide to freely explore instead on keep the linear order of the game?

You don't lose xp from exploration or quests, but you cannot get xp or loot from enemies that are more than 5 levels below you.

You can still quest in older areas purely for the enjoyment of the story, if you skipped an area.

But no, you don't get rewards for doing very old content compared to your power level.

Edit - Guess I was too slow. These forums move fast!

be careful going into public dungeons at high levels in low level areas if you missed them! You will get reported for botting while trying to complete the quest with all the other bots in there. Next toon I'm not missing a thing...all the dang report happy people...bah...good riddance to em all

this is unexpected. i thought that i could explore in which order i wanted without being penalized. looks like we are really forced to do a linear exploration. highly unexpected :\

    Remember Morrowind? Same thing.

You're going on outlevel certain content if you skip ahead and go back. You don't suffer xp loss for the exploration, but you don't get xp for clearing obscenely easy content.

i don't believe that it would be a problem since i've been unable to get one single drop from any of the dungeons i did in the last week. everybody knows very well which ones are the bots and since nothing is changing looks like zenimax likes the bots.

btw... if nothing drops at high levels in low level areas why would i be reported for botting while trying to complete the quest? - i don't get the point.

    Arena and Daggerfall had level-scaling?

Arena did and didn't, human enemies scaled with you but monsters stayed the same level no matter what. This way they could keep you out of areas you weren't supposed to be in.

But out of all the elderscrolls game, this one most closely resembles Morrowind. Which had no scaling at all, if you wen't to a higher level zone, the enemies would kick your ass, and if you did survive you would out level where you were supposed to be.

This also seems to be why those that were huge fans of Morrowind tend to be huge fans of this, while those that didn't play it, seem at odds with it.
