Why did Zenimax even bother making an mmo?

The game wants you to solo quest and only solo quest. Leveling is all solo questing. Your reward for hitting 50? More solo questing.

If they just wanted everyone to solo, wouldn't it have been smarter to just make a single player game? I mean they wasted a lot money building an mmo if they don't want people playing together.

There are two kind of whiners ( about this subject ).
One kind whines about "beeing forced" to play with others...
Your kind whines about "beeing forced" to play alone.

I whine because there are no donkeys!
I want my donkey! No joke! I demand it because without a donkey the game is so broken!"§$%&/()=!

Uh..what? Leveling up is very solo questing focused. Group content and PvP give virtually no exp. Veteran ranks literally only level up by...more solo questing. Teaming up for solo questing is cumbersome with phasing and would present no challenge at all. There is good group content with the 4 mans, why not use it more than once?

If the idea is to have everyone solo so much, they would have been better off making a single player game.

So you just edited your post and now it makes even less sense...

I lvled from 1-vr3 with a friend... 99% of my playtime was in a group... still want my donkey!

Editing posts to add a demand for a donkey ( or correcting syntax ) is immun against critics!

Any tips on how to progress as a group? Dial back the nonsense a little, it gets us nowhere. Say something meaningful please.

Nope...just bored this kind of threads made by people who didnt really played the game.

    Now a serious answere:

    You are totally wrong.
    Grouping is optional here.

You may play alone... you may group.
Nobody is forced to do one of this.

There are enough quests to become 50 easily before finishing thelast mainquest so exp is not an issue.

I enjoy that I can group with friends when I want, but can also solo and challenge myself with quests. I don't need my hand held, or to be protected through content. I do like being able to chat and hang out before running off to save the world.

Come on ! If you want to play with others, group with somebody. If you prefer to play alone, so stay alone !

This game doesn't constrained you to choose. Both are viable. You can play the way you want, so why don't just do it ? You want the game to group you automatically ?

Personnaly, I play alone. But there are so many people out there that I can't really do my quests alone. Even if I am not in a group, I have to share mobs with other players, and I think it's really fantastic because I feel the game is "alive" ! :)

Because the way I want to play doesn't give exp. I want to heal. I'm reduced to mob grinding groups and even then there isn't enough monsters to go around.

The dungeons are great, but they took out the exp. :(

Even if I make it to 50, I have to do another faction's quests to get veteran ranks. The game really wants you to solo quest.

If they allowed exp in dungeons and pvp things would be a lot better. I'm saying they have set the game up to heavily encourage players to solo quest and it discourages grouping. They made this cool multiplayer game, and made the multiplayer parts unrewarding. It's frustrating.

I sympathize with your point. Miss the older days when MMORPGs encouraged group play through-out.

Maybe one day a game will come along that makes solo play difficult enough to encourage group play. But until then, at least this game does offer a much better solo experience than many others.

Think a lot of people here seem to be missing the point. I have played a fair amount of MMOs (around 5 mainstream MMOs over the last few years), and no other MMO has discouraged grouping as much as ESO.

If you want to level somewhat efficiently soloquesting is the way to go. Pairing up with one more person works somewhat because it allows you to also take on public dungeon bosses (although atm there is usually enough people levelling to just PUG it), but any larger groups becomes a massive encumberance.

Questing seems to be the only viable way to level as well. Doing dungeons after the first time gives you basically no exp because kills give you barely anything compared to quests that give you like 10% of you exp bar or more.
Haven't tried PvP yet, but the same seems to apply there.

Personally I don't have a big problem with this, because I have no problem sololeveling, proceeding at my own pace. But of the 4 people I started playing with, 2 are quitting because there is so little groupcontent and they don't want to play Tamriel: Running Simulator.

I have to say that I tend to agree with the OP. Just finished a run on a tough public dungeon and it was a nightmare trying co-ordinate the quests in it with the 2 other players I was with. I must have run back and forth in the dungeon 3 or 4 times so that everyone could finish. I would like to see group questing made more user-friendly.

Hopefully they make some adventure zones targeted at lower player to diversify the leveling process. I think it would be a great idea and promote some kind of group content.

Even if it is only one zone that adapts to the group level. My 2 cents.

But there is a donkey. I saw a donkey just the other night, while doing the Daggers quest with the Harpies in Glenumbra -the Lord whosiname's encampment has a donkey standing there large as life next to a cart. OK, it might be an ass, or maybe a pit pony, but then in either case it'd be down in a dungeon camping on a boss...

While grouped with my wife leveled from 1-34, and still going... I seriously don't understand these threads.

Are you guys just looking for random area events like GW2? Please elaborate on how you are forced to play solo.

I refute your statement that they want me to solo and solo only. I have, and do, play with others in this game.

I think your perspective is skewed by the simple fact that you think you must play solo. That is all you dude, as I've not had a problem.

Yes, there are instances that must be solo'd, but there were also instances that must be grouped. So you are not properly evaluating the game, you are simply making a statement that is not true.

The phasing part of quests can make it pretty tiresome to quest with others. If you haven't encountered such a problem, I get it, you don't understand, but don't get condescending if you first admit you don't understand. It's silly...

It is possible to do solo quets of trivial difficulty along side someone else doing the same quests. It presents absolutely no challenge though.

ESO does not give exp in 4 man dungeons or pvp, they only reward solo play. You can team up and play pretend, but you're still doing solo content. The thread is not at all pointless. I suppose it's possible you don't understand what's going on.

I guess I'm just tired of mmos setting the bar so low lately. Glad you guys are enjoying the trivial difficulty, solo content though.

That's because you are pretending you are teamed up while you each do your own easy, solo quest in the same area. Some will manage to find entertainment in pretending they are working together, but with no risk or challenge present, it gets very dull for many because you are just going through the motions in the same area. There is no teamwork involved or needed.

It seems pretty silly to make an mmo that wants everyone doing solo content. And that is all you guys are doing, solo content. The world events are extremely shallow, hardly worth mentioning.

I find this funny because the fastest levelling was and I believe still is group mob grinding, just not in dungeons. People that have been levelling together aren't running into phasing problems because they are together, thus doing the same quests and likely doing the same choices in them.

I've played nearly completely solo yet have no issue finding people to group with when I want to.

I haven't tried mob grinding lately (game is boring) but it was hard to find enough monsters to even do this, as I've already said. The places were overrun due to the lack of rewards in real group content. It's also really sad if that is the best way to progress as a group, which it is.

Grouping up to do solo content is just playing pretend. It's laughable you have to pick the same steps or the game separates you. You are each doing your own easy quest, not really playing together.

They already said they are going to make dungeons more rewarding and they are increasing pvp exp, so they recognize the problem. The damage has been done though.

Solo players will enjoy the current setup, but it's pretty dumb to make an mmo and then heavily encourage solo play. I mean after hitting 50 I'm supposed to go do another 1,000 fetch quests? No thanks.

They should have just made a 4 player Skyrim because this is a very poorly designed mmo.

I hate to tell you this, you cannot have both solo questing and grouping that doesn't make content trivial. The number of solo players far outweigh the number of groupers. You either suck it up and play anyways, or you take your ball and go home. They are not going to be changing the entire levelling process for a minority.

BTW, most players have to group in the VR ranks, they are that much harder. Soloing because much more of a labor than grouping and only a few builds actually work well for soloing most the VR content.

You make an unnecessary either/or argument. Use your head.

They have some content with pvp and dungeons, they just made it a waste of time in terms of progression. They are in the process of fixing it, but when I made this thread there was no word on the issue. Unlike some of the selfish solo players you mentioned, I am not seeking to have rewards removed from anything. Only a real jerk would want to stop people from enjoying themselves (some group oriented players do the same thing, it's equally dumb). The exp from group content was removed right before launch, I suspect you didn't know that.

Nice "Don't like it? Leave!" response though. Game is flawless and if anyone doesn't like anything they should just quit, right? Be careful what you wish for.

You don't seem to understand what grouping is do you? Of course the point of grouping up is doing the same quest´s, why else should you group? If everyone runs around somewhere else, then there is no point of a group.

Every MMO on this planet works under the same principle, you group up and do stuff together. If you don't then you are separated because of your progress. Wow works like that since WOTLK and nobody ever cried.

You lack MMO experience and blame TESO for it, just weak argumentation from your side.
