Lore Question: Institutions training Mages in First Era ?

Hello all

I am playing an Imperial Sorcerer and i am trying to come up with a background.
He hasnt yet joined the mage guild so where could he have received his formal training ?
The Academy isnt formed until the 2nd Era and as far as i know the Crystal Tower is Altmer only.
I could just join the Mageguild now but i would be interested to know if anyone else has an idea for an Institution that taught Imperial Mages during that time.

Thanks !!

    Hey dolmen

Thanks for the video link. It didnt answer the question but was fun to watch nevertheless.
    He does great lore videos.
I just made my Sorc part of the Mageguild and gave him a story to explain his scars and his apparent lack of history with the guild :)

Thanks again for the time to link the video.

I don't think there were any organized institutions, save for the Psijiics. Galerion's idea of an open Mages Guild was quite revolutionary and met with opposition at first. Maybe your character learned privately, as someone's apprentice?

Yes, also a good idea. Private tutoring would solve most issues with background. Dont really want to place him with the Psijiics as that doesnt fit at all.

    Thanks for your answers

I just thought I'd mention that TESO takes place almost 600 years after the end of the First Era. Not even mer live that long. It appears that the first Mages' Guild was formed in 2E 230 (in the Imperial City), so that's an option for your background if you like.

Also, as an Imperial you were likely born in the relatively affluent Cyrodiil area. There are enough libraries around to make it feasible that you could be self-taught through independent study, sort of how wizards in D&D tend to work.

    I hope that helps somehow.
