Horse Price Change

TheCookisMonstar
Would it benefit the game to lower the price of buying a horse, and raise the price of horse upgrades?

I did buy imperial as well as the $15 horse from shop. I like to collect things, but if I had not done so...the 15-40,000+ horse prices for basic horses is a bit much for sub lvl 30 players. It might have been better to set them at 5,000 with each upgrade at 1,500 a day. This way people could get them but the upgrades put into them would require more farming and careful consideration.

As it stands you can also buy many imperial horses for 1 G each... kinda silly to allow that as a perk and somehow I don't see that as being intended... but it is what it is.

Something to consider as a economic change prior to Console release?

40,000g is not the price for a regular horse. 17,000g (easily attainable at early levels) is.

And the reason those advanced horses cost more is that they can ultimately be faster/hardier/more-laden than the basic horse, because they start with better base stats.

I don't even see a need to buy a regular horse currently, especially as a crafter. I tried the Imperial one in beta, and I wasn't that impressed with the speed. I was constantly getting on and off and it started to get annoying if I was gathering stuff.

I'm just pocketing everything until I can get the more expensive one, as by that time I'll have explored most of the zones and I'll be delving into pvp where it could be more useful. I see no point in upgrading the 17k one, if you plan on the 40k one. I also don't see it as too much, as it gives me something to work towards.

You are aware that you can increase the horse speed, right? The sellers can offer you to buy apples and each day (20 hours) you can increase the horse speed by 1.

Prices for the horses are fine. I remember when getting a mount in WoW actually cost something and when you got it, it was amazing. This feels like that. Getting the mount takes work and when you get it, you feel you earned it.

Yup ^^ I actually wish they hadn't made a "Pay RL money for horse" option so that it was even more difficult to get your first horsey.

I'm with @JohnD212. When I got my first mount in wow, after so many months of playing (take a note ESO, slow down leveling please!) it was one of those awesomsauceamazeballz moments. Same with the first time I got my level 60 mount. I REALLY had to work for it.

I find them expensive. some way to get one cheaper maby with less perks. but with bank slots and bags being expensive you have to choose. the imperial horse is everywhere, not seen many shop horses. To bad the shop horses are only avalible from lvl 10. not sure why they did that. anyhow for now I'm walking. I'll adapt.

    I agree.

The 17,000 priced horse is entirely attainable at lower levels. By lower levels, I don't mean level 5 either. Level 5's shouldn't be running around on horses en masse. Then it ceases to be a luxury and becomes a necessity.

The 42,000 gold horse is the Cadillac. You don't need it to survive. You can get from Quest A to Quest B just fine in your 17,000 gold Civic. If everybody drove a Caddy, we'd hear people whining for Ferraris. If everybody had a Ferrari.......

And frankly, you can survive just fine without any horse at all. Base runspeed of a cheap horse is only 15% improvement. I rarely even call mine, I just run everywhere. Made more practical by grabbing harvest nodes along the way, and exploring.

Thank you! I was about to post this very thing. Man when I got my first saber cat mount I rode that baby all over Darnassus like a boss because of how hard I had saved to get it. So tired of everyone wanting *** handed to them with no effort involved in getting it.

15% speed boost plus a somewhat quickly replenished stamina bar for sprinting (which i don't know actual percentage, but is a good bit faster than 15%) makes the horse pretty darned useful.

yes but initial basic is too much for casuals. Just observation... we want to succeed we have to cater to casuals

    I'm a "casual". I have a level 15 as my highest.

I'm doing just fine, thanks. Consider that the casual vote.

I would agree with this if the game didn't throw gold at you.

I had 17k for the horse by the time my first character hit level 10.

I prefer high entry cost, low maintenance vs. cheap to buy and dump more over time. As perhaps a lame example, I would rather buy a LED bulb for 15 bucks, instead of 15 bulbs over the next several years.

Generally, I think the way the horse is implemented works fine. Steep gold sink for convenience. Well, I suppose if historical experience in MMO's tell me anything, its that in a year or less 42k is nothing.

Horse prices are a gold sink. At lower levels, you benefit more from NOT having a horse. You gain XP by fighting creatures you stumble on in the game. You find and can get to nodes that can be harvested for your creations, or just to sell to make a bit of coin.

If you are on a horse from the very beginning, you invariably miss a lot of content that isn't seen as you ride by.

I only do one profession on each of my characters. I spread it out to save on skill points originally so I can focus more on combat builds for solo and PvP.

So I do have a hell of a lot of trash to sell. I also sell mats after i've refined them if i'm not going to need them.

Granted not everyone does that and some people focus far more on professions so my income is probably a terrible example.

I didn't have any trouble getting a horse by level 14.

Of course, I am the person who runs around looting every possible lootable; harvesting every harvestable, etc.

Unfortunately, I rarely ever actually use my horse. "Mount up... walk literally 3 steps, dismount, loot item/object/node... Mount up... repeat." - It's just easier to walk.

Then again, if you're having trouble affording a horse, I suppose you won't have the same problems I have once you actually have one - because you clearly don't know how to earn gold.

I have imperial, but the thing is you want things friendly to new players so the player base and community grows. If the game grows in popularity and use, then developers stay working for new content.
