Servers online "Midday"?

OutlawedPsycho
I'm not completely sure on what they mean by "midday", to me that means a lot of times.

And of course I find this out right after purchasing the game! xD Anyways, any clue on when they may be back on?

(sorry if a post like this don't go here)

Seems like the downtime is usually 3-5 hours.

I'm not sure of the time conversion but I'd see how long the EU server was down. I'm sure we can expect about the same.

I can certainly understand the OPs angst with a downtime right after purchasing the game, but let me assure him the wait for the servers to re-open will certainly be worth it. ESO is without a doubt the BEST MMO of all time, and I go back to the granddaddy of them all, Ultima Online.

As far as what midday means, I would start checking back around noon EST.

It seems like Friday is a normal maintenance day? Or at least it was down last friday also.

If they were more specific folks would say they'd "promised" to be back up by a specific time. I'd say any vagueness is entirely intentional. They probably have a pretty good idea when they'll be back up, but can't be sure things will play out as expected. :)

It will be up when they finish whatever it is they are fixing. Till then, all we can do is go out and smell the roses.

Yeah there's never a way to be specific about downtime. You have to apply the update, test it somewhat and hope all of the servers start as expected. It's possible to find that an update doesn't act as expected and you might need to roll back to the previous version and try again later after more coding on the update. So specific downtimes guarantees don't work.

they are pushing another patch..look forward to it breaking the loader...giving wrong version...or throwing out login error codes at start... but someone will post a long work around that may or may not include fully DL'ing the 22gb game... of course finding this info will be nigh on impossible due to the horrid forum layout and hierarchy.

Then again they may do it right this time and we will be back up in less than the 14hrs posted above.

I kid, I kid... All in good fun...

If you keep time on a totally different system, then yes. However, we've only had one emergency maintenance (during early access) go into double digits.

OP: They don't give a specific ETA because they don't want players screaming at them when the server isn't back up at exactly that time.

A very nice method you can use to estimate and understand these hours is to use twitter.

    Example:

TESO official twitter account posted 8 hrs ago that the eu server will come down for maintenance. 4 hours ago it said maintenance is done. 1 hour ago it said NA server is down for maintenance, that gives it 3 hrs from now to get it back up, assuming the downtimes of eu and na servers are similar. I expect em up between 12-1pm us eastern.
  • thjudgeman1142ub17_ESO
Last patch they broke the game and it was down many many hours longer than EU... same patch as EU? I too look at twitter and the server status page but often find little info other than cookie cutter comments.

Well off to play Wildfire I guess... bunch of free beta keys posted today for this weekend.

Midday means noon(12PM EDT) but if history is anything to go by, they'll realize they created a new superbug after they patched the European server, and will take the the EU server down to fix and extend the NA server maintenance for like another 7-8 hours.

That happened once. So if statistics are anything to go by, NA servers will be up a little earlier than anticipated.

No. In Early Access, an emergency maintenance period had to be extended. It had nothing to do with a regular fix to the EU servers suddenly causing an extended regular maintenance period for NA.

Those are two radically different situations.

As far as I can remember, I do not recall their servers ever being up at the originally forecasted times. It always "sorry guys, taking longer than expected"

Unfortunately this seems to be the case, it is also a really stupid day for them to do it. Friday-Monday should be off limits for this. These are the days that people generally have off from work or school due to holidays or vacation days.

With Mega-server technology surely they could just leapfrog servers thus having a non stop gaming environment? Its different with the huge bugs like currently in game.

You have a very selective memory, then. Last week, both Tuesday and Friday maintenance ended earlier for NA than it did for EU. During Early Access, the only non-emergency maintenance was scheduled to be 4 hours. It lasted less.

EU took about 4 1/2 hours...NA usually takes slightly longer, so I'd expect around 5 hours. That's if nothing goes horribly wrong, which, still being a newborn game, it often does. The nice part is, unlike most other MMO's, these devs actually fix the reported problems. Though frequent and long downtimes are frustrating, in the long-run we will relish in the gem that we've invested in.

That's why we have bugged progression quests a week later?
