Color blind Mode please?

Hi there,

I am one of the poeple who have a "seeing red weakness", i.e. red colors are hard for me to discern from green and brown colors. This leads to some of the combat clues on the ground being not or only very faintly visible for me.

Many games already have a color blind setting (see for example world of tanks) which works perfectly. This should really not be very hard to implement but will be a great improvement for people like me.

Do you think this would be a good idea to implement? If so please answer in this thread.

Thank you

As another colour blind player I think this is an obvious feature that should be added. I was surprised I couldn't find the option in the settings.

Personally I find it difficult to tell the difference between the blue and purple gear, which is frustrating. I tend to link stuff to my friends to check if it is epic or not.

I agree, sadly I am fully color blind and see no visual cues and have to have people in my mumble tell me im in red circles. I have resorted to just constantly going in a huge circle in dungeons around my group members so if I do get in a red circle its not long.

Be warned OP when i suggested this some time ago I got responses like "its not cost effective to support color blind ppl" "Ya and there needs to be a brail version of this game 2" oh and not to mention all the people saying im not really color blind. Personally my favorite was that being color blind doesn't take away from the tone of the visual cues. Not to mention others were like "your health bar glows yellow when you have a buff" (lol seriously?)

I agree with you though, I would love to have some sort of visual cues.

I may not be colorblind myself but I 100% agree that they should add an option/setting/what have you for that.

There are ways around this already. Set healthbars to only show for Enemy NPCs and such. Zeni should not have to spend tons on development that affects such a small percentage of the population.

And setting healthbars to only show for enemy NPC's corrects all the other issues someone who is colour blind is affected by how? Please contribute constructively or not at all.

I agree an option should be implemented for colour blind players.

We should also not have any services for the disabled or veterans, too. They're just so a percentage of the population.

    Right?

    Right?

Except that this is a game. You don't have any "right" to be able to access this game. The Americans with Disabilities Act only affects such things as employment and public accommodation.

And so, because ZOS is not obligated, by law, to be a compassionate design studio, they should strive not to be one.

Your mindset is a bit sociopathic.

As to the original complaint, there are actually not workarounds. The complaint is about the color RED being difficult to perceive. Turning on enemy health bars doesn't resolve this, because they are RED. Ground-target markers for enemy spells/attacks are also RED. Some combat cues for enemy actions are displayed as RED sparklies.

This is definitely something that should be addressed, and is entirely possible to do so. As demonstrated by many other gaming titles.

Perhaps it’s time the needs of the few were put before the needs of the one or the many.

Anyway I digress, I am also colour blind, in my case ‘red/green/brown’ and ‘blue/violet/pink’ this has quite an impact at times on my game play. It was only when someone mentioned Gutsripper had a red warning circle around him to stay clear of that I realised why I was getting hammered so often.

For those with colour perfect vision you might like to know that on average 1 in 20 men are to some degree colour deficient where as only about 1 in 100 females suffer the same.

As someone who can't always play with sound also, it would be nice if the dialogue went into chat boxes also. Seems like hearing impaired people get the shaft as well, as a lot of the dialogue is speech only.

Also can you please add a feature to the forums for the trollblind to quickly discern real posts from troll posts? Because so many people are still trollblind (way more than colorblind btw). This causes so many useless posts by people trying to seriously answer to totally and utterly stupid proposals and comments instead of just ignoring them. I hope both types of people know who I am talking about.

My girlfriend is also RG colorblind (uncommon in females) and she also has trouble seeing some things, like the red danger zones from character abilities. I know she could really benefit from a colorblind mode. At least the ability to change the color of specific effects.

It's not that small a percentage of people with color deficient vision (color blind is really a bit of a misnomer). In men, the prevalence is around 5.0% to 8.0%, although in women the prevalence is only 0.5% to 1.0%.

~5% to 8% is not a trivial number customers.

It's also a fairly trivial fix--mainly, just tweak color settings to offer a high-contrast, or better yet, user adjustable, palette, as an option.

We're not talking about rewriting major code here. It's done for a lot of games now, and frankly, I'm pretty surprised when modern games don't bake it in from the start. Makes the developer seem kind of like a jerk IMO.

Of course, maybe in a few years this genetic cure will be finally approved for humans and it will be a moot issue: www.genevolve.com/genetic-treatment.html

    This quote is amazing.

Also - my proposal = we make an addon to give visual clues to colorblind players. An accessibility addon, basically.

An add-on is fine, but a bit of a band-aid, and not sure they provide enough hooks into the api to do it fully or in a non-ugly, non-intrusive way. Really should be done by the developer--its not that hard to give some more color/tone options.

They can't even get a proper fullscreen mode working. I'm afraid to see how badly they'd botch color blind mode, though I agree it's something that should be added.

They should add it once they are finished with the game stopping bugs such as launcher issues or login issues or bank issues. Absolutely wish they do but they've got to keep the real issues in focus without getting distracted. Or do you suggest otherwise?

There is an add-on called simple combat cues or so (from the same developer as simple chat bubbles).

It will interpret the combat cues in an actual word flying in your screen flying. It's not 100% accurate but it might help. Check EsoUI.

Important is to turn on the combat cues in your interface settings to , always on'.

I don't know if this will help or not but I googled up "nvidia color blind" and found this.

    http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-2498935.html

Mid ways, someone mentions making alterations via the Nvidia control panel to the color spectrum.

This thread had me wondering if there might not be a out of game fix to the issue. The best fix of course would be to put in the in game option.

@Degalian‌, Whilst I am not colour blind, I fully support this. Also I noticed this game doesn't have any subtitles, least not that I have seen (I know quest givers do). This should also be in the game for the hard-of-hearing.
