Naming your own weapons and armor.

I was thinking earlier that I wish ESO allowed for the naming of our own player crafted weapons and armor, and I think it could be done here as well. I realize in previous TES titles this was only during the enchanting process and I think it would need to be the same in ESO. Here are some of my ideas for requirements/restrictions for naming your own weapons/armor. Feel free to add your own 2 cents and let's see if we can make this happen.

- You would only be able to name items of Epic or Legendary quality.
- Naming would be a one time option when the enchantment is added to the weapon. (This means you don't have to be the person who crafted the item to name it.)
- Once an item has been given a custom name the enchantment added becomes locked onto that item and the item itself becomes account bound.
- A language filter system similar to what is used in the chat system would need to be implemented so that obscene language is either not allowed or is filtered for those who do not wish to see it.

These are just a few of my thoughts on the subject but this is one of the things I always loved about TES games.

Look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts on the subject.

Sounds cool, though it would almost certainly take a lot of new coding. They'd also need to be sure that it didn't hold any hidden pitfalls interfering with any other part of the code.

Sounds like something for a future expansion.

Just putting my thoughts out there. This is an amazing game already and I think this would just be one way to add another layer for those who wanted it.

What you are talking about sounds more like an add-on which could be requested to be made at any esohead type forums, which if receives a lot of requests will be made. right now not many people are interested in naming items. its a cool idea, but a cosmetic one. Now wasn't i helpful :)

Naming wepons would be awesome, but they would have to add a profanity filter. I ca imagine a lot of kids going around naming the wepons stupidly. Also this would prove amazing for roleplayers like myself.

That would be awesome for most of the roleplayers, having names engraved on their gear.
Pretty awesome idea, I would love to see it added to the game.

No point of naming since there is no option to inspect other player's gear.

    This.

As there is no option to view other players' gear, there is no reason why any weapon or armor should be named.

If you're a streamer and want to add some roleplay, you may name your weapon for your guests. This needn't be covered as an game functionality.

I remember playing a MMO game, Asheron's Call 1 maybe, where you could inscribe a message on an item.

It was cool to inscribe gifts for your friends, guildies, and vassals.

It would be a cool addition to this game.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnndddddddddddd That's why I vote no to naming armor and weapons. We already have enough people running around with goofy character names....

I think that this could be a good idea because I use several of the same type of weapons with different enchants and attributes.(depending on what I need) also it would make sense since you could do this in previous elder scrolls titles. Most weapons that were important had a name and if I am a blacksmith my weapons might sell better if it is called daedric crusher instead of iron war hammer. So there is value in names people it's not just fun but also function.

SWG had a great system for this. When you crafted an item you could name it anything. Was a great way for crafters to promote their sales, as everyone knew a "BlasTech Pistol" was the best quality due to it being crafted by Riggs Blaston (on my server  )

I could imagine crafter's doing similar things here with weapons and armor.

Yup - I've always wanted to name a sword "The Porking Stick."
I can't wait to get a message from some WB-spamming knightblade with a 2h Maul saying, "You just got wrecked by the [Banhammer]."
Are you ready for sexual innuendo and anime inspired sword names?

Sounds dumb to me. If you want to name your sword, go play Skyrim.

Lots of people name their swords. Yeah, lots of C***s.

I use that expression in jest, I would love to name my sword  It helped me with organization as well, I had sets with the same text etc. within Skrim.

Plus I just want to make a Master Sword and Hylian Shield for my Link-esque character.

As much as I would love to name my weapons and armor; I do believe a gear naming system would be abused unfortunately. That being said I see two ways of circumventing this

    1. Named gear and weapons cannot be traded or sold.
    or
    2. Each weapon and piece of gear can have two to four slots to place preset names developed by Zenimax.

Not perfect solutions but I believe those two solutions to be simple.
