Does enchanting get better?

Enchanting so far seems weak to me and I am considering removing my skill points from it because I'm having a hard time making any use of it.

The enchants I make - even the blue versions - are weaker than the ones I can simply buy from the enchanting vendor. I collect every rune I find, which takes up a huge amount of inventory space. And even then I can never seem to find new combinations to level up with.

So what I am left with is an under-leveled craft that serves me none or little purpose and hogs a lot of space.

Is this just an early level phenomenon (my character's level is 17) or does this craft stay like this through-out?

As far as I know, currently: it is always like that.

I've read several threads here regarding the state of enchanting and it seems to me most people are simply sitting on their mats until the devs give it a boost.

And I hear what you're saying, definitely all those stupid runes are taking up a ton of bag and bank space. At level 36, I haven't yet created a full stack of any specific essence rune, but I'm getting there.

Just want to add: I have never seen anyone ever try to sell enchantment glyhps in either zone or yell. Never.

Well, I do agree... my Enchanting is at like 12 or something (I forget) and my character is level 18, but I can make enchantments up to level 30...

One good thing about enchanting is that you can make glyphs which (I think) cannot be bought from vendors.

I don't think vendors sell glyphs which give damage shields, extra armor, spell resistance, magicka / health / stamina absorption or regen.

I might be wrong, because I've only bought glyphs from a vendor once though.

Also, the glyphs you can make are tied to your zone, for example, you can only make 5-15 glyphs in Stonefalls (as I recall) but you can buy 10-20 ones, its the potency runes that are tied to the area level you are in (and also depending on your skill point in it to use them obviously).

Enchanting is something wich looks rather lame, yet it i really usefull. It is a shame you cannot add wepon damage on armors and are stuck with the add healt,magicka...

Thanks for all the comments and insight.

Seems to be a mix of opinions so think I'll just wait it out for a few more levels to see if it gets any better. That or I start needing enchants I can't readily buy. I definitely have some new things to consider.

That would explain why I seem to be able to buy better ones that I can make.

The sheer volume of runes makes farming them a nightmare because of limited bag space, so I have found that just selling any I get helps me keep my bag space clear and helps my guildies by giving them a different source without having to clog up their own bags by holding onto runes they cannot use immediately.

Personally, for myself, I am skilling Enchanting up, but not in any dedicated manner. I am only deconstructing found/looted glyphs that I get and then selling off the runes. I stopped trying to skill up by creating since holding onto the runes is just a waste of bag space for me, atm.

I wonder if it is intended that enchanting is soooo sloooow to level. I had provisioning at 50 before I hit lvl20. Blacksmithing, woodworking and tailoring are leveled solely by deconstructing stuff. Alchemy goes quite well too. Enchanting is a pain in the butt to increase.

I find a lot of rank 4-5 potency runes and I can't even use those being level 12 in the craft. To me I think finding materials should be based on crafters level not the characters level.

Actually its worst than you think .

In the AD areas after you leave the starter islands the amount of Runes drops off in a HUGE degree . So you cant grind to 50 .

Compared to Blacksmithing which gives Armor or Weapon damage and a Trait its pretty weak as a crafting class . ( Clothier , Woodworker similar to Blacksmithing ) .

You will get far less Enchants as loot for Deconstruct to help level compared to the other crafting classes .

A lot of Jewelry cant be Enchanted . Those Enchants are about 45% of your known recipes .So no gold or leveling benefit .

2nd level hireling you are lucky to get 3 Runes . Plus they can be of a level you cant even use .

    BROKEN !!!!!!!!!!

What did you expect? It's Elder Scrolls, there are always specific enchancements for specific parts of gear.

Max out the skill and i guarantee you'll be raking in the cash in a few weeks when others get to veteran ranks.
