This question I asked for days before I even purchased my imperial edition, now I got in early and played the betas etc, but all in all the imperial edition is a major let down, for several reasons, namely the price which was the most I ever paid for a game, then the content I get with the imperial edition, now yes being able to play any race and faction is nice, being able to play an imperial is nice and having the means to covert gear to imperial style is nice, so you wonder what my gripe is about well...simply its not enough.

Now before you think i'm ungrateful or anything like that, consider the price again for the imperial edition. I really would have liked that crafting for instance of imperial gear and playing imperial was unique to imperial accounts...i mean sure we get the horse but really...you can grind for gold in the game and buy a horse, I wanted the imperial edition to be a vanity item, most people dont really care about what racial bonus they get so "imperial is nice but who cares, I'm not going to spend that kinda cash just to play imperial, I'll grind the gold, buy my horse and buy the motif of imperials, no one will know i'm not imperial even since my gear will look the same..."

I am vain and I would like more for my money, I would love to have imperial motifs removed, making the imperial edition of the game feel more worth the money spent and that its a more special version of the game, giving me the feel that my money actually got me something very few have unless they buy the imperial edition of the game.

Lets face it, maybe not now but not long either the odds are they will let you "transmog" your gear into any other races look as long as you have learned the motif...the players will demand it, which removes the "Special" of the imperial edition to do it. They need to rethink for the long run how the game probably will change, right now many ppl run around with mismatched gear and they WILL want to change it to look like something they want, games like WoW spoilt people and this is surely gonna be out there eventually...these are just my feelings and opinions of course but I really hope/ed that zenimax would make crafting, converting imperial gear unique and not just a motif you can pick up and viola im imperial also (if you get my meaning) for what this version of the game cost they really could make it feel more special...yeah I know I am vain but whats the point in having the imperial edition if you dont feel or have really all the bragging rights?

PS sorry if this was in the wrong forums category, but i thought it probably fits in here as good a place as any since it revolves around the crafting of gear.

I am glad I didn't buy it. I wanted it only for the armor (though the horse is a nice bonus). Now I already have the Imperial motif and about enough cash to buy a horse. The only reason I got the explorer pack was so I could start any race character in any alliance.

Not sure what the OPs point is though...you want to be able to pay money so people will envy you? I don't get it. I prefer that vanity stuff be limited to in-game accomplishments myself. If anything, the Imperial edition gave too much.

PS: You get to play as an actual Imperial. That is something no one else can do who did not buy the Imperial Edition. So there is that.

I bought the Imperial Edition. Bragging rights weren't even a thought in my head when deciding on the purchase. I think most people feel that items paid for with real world money don't carry any prestige. Items earned through difficult in game feats carry prestige.

I mostly wanted to be able to make any race from any faction, the horse is nice too. I'm satisfied.

I spent money on the physical Imperial Edition.

I could have saved myself 40 bucks and:
Gone to the bar, strip club, a dinner or two, or a couple of movies.

My total /played time at this point is 6 days. That is 140 hours.

140 hours at the bar, strip club, dinners, or movies would have cost me WAY more than 40 bucks.

I really like the statue, the book, and the digital contents on the Imperial Edition... and I agree they probably are not... by themselves... $40 worth of stuff.

But... Playing the game for 140 hours as an imperial, with imperial armor, on my imperial horse...

I'm very happy with what I spent on the Imperial Edition.

Well I was going to pay the $60 for the standard edition anyway. An extra $30 for 5 days of entertainment and avoiding the monotonous grind to raise 17.5k for a horse? I've certainly spent $30 in worse ways.

Those were the features that sold me on the Imperial Edition. The other stuff that came with it was nice, I guess, but.didn't weigh into my decision to purchase it.

I couldn't care less about vanity items. I agree with the previous poster who said it's not really a status symbol if you acquire it with real world money rather than in-game skill. At least, it's not a status symbol to me.

Also, the words "sunk cost" spring to mind.

I'm happy with mine. Can you imagine the outrage if Imperial motifs were removed? There was already enough outcry from having the Imperials in the game in the first place, and even more for having them behind a "paygate".

Sounds like you're having buyer's remorse.

Of course it wasn't worth it. That's why I didn't buy it.

I saved £40 and I don't have some useless junk lying around that I can't bear to throw away 'cos it cost me £40.

(Mind you, I paid for the Palamino when it came out - worth the money I decided.)

    So humor. Much laugh.

To be fair though, I got the digital imperial edition, so my copy was only $20 more and I don't have to worry about having a statue I'll never look at cluttering up my desk. But to each their own.

Even if all you got was the horse, it was worth it. I'm currently leveling four different horses, one for each of the traits and one that is balanced speed and stamina.

Reasons I think it's worth it:

    1) race with best tank stats in the game...couldn't ask for a more perfect tank setup then that.
    2) play an Imperial in your choice of starter areas.
    3) 1g horse. may not seem like much, but it adds up. especially if you like crafting (less money cause you break everything down), and like to spend some of your hard earned cash. And if your a guy like me who likes to fill up his character slots, its crucial. I saved over 150k+ on mounts for my 8 toons. thats allot of money.

So if you dont care to play imperials (or tanks), dont care what starter area you want, and feel comfy spending 17+ per toon to get a mount, then nah, it aint for you.

If you are trying to convince a significant other that the game is worth spending money on, or if you have a tight budget at the moment, I can totally see that. but if you have the extra $, I would go for it. it pays off itself in dividends, very fast. especially when you can hop off the ship, sell a few items you got in your started bag, and pick u your horse, its a big difference between that and skrimping and saving to try and get your mount before lvl 25. there's allot of walking in this game...

The 1g horse is a must says I..... even though I rarely used it in PVE.
The ability to change my crafted armor into imperial style is nice as early imperial armor tends to look cooler than all the others.
My pet mudcrab "Fluffy" I'm still not bored of.
As for the ring of Mara, well I have had great fun teasing my friend who I got married with, much to his annoyance.
I like the Molag Bal statue & the art book is great & rivals Skyrim's in it's detail.

All in all I'm rather happy with my purchase of the Imperial Edition.

Which means we get to play as the same race as Abner Tharn. I noticed the main give away for Imperials is their huge noses and small eyes. They're rather unattractive overall aren't they?

    Still Abner Tharn is cool.

You got the "play as imperial", the unique horse and the transmogrify.

I thought the Imperial Gear was exclusive too, but well... My gain, I own a standard copy and a motif. Don't want a horse or imperial or transmog.

Couldn't justify myself buying the Imp.Edition.

Bought the Imperial Edition (physical box). The leather bound Emperor's Guide to Tamriel, Molag Bal statue and the treasure maps made it well worth the price, especially the Emperor's Guide to Tamriel, the book is incredibly well done.

(I do wish they designed the maps a little better, hell, I had to x2 purchase more bank space just to keep them all :o )

It's worth it for the book and the model alone i think. The Imperial race/armour and mount is a bonus.

Not worthy it, I'm not going to renew the subscription, this is a bland MMO and not even worth a monthly fee, I wish I had only bought the normal edition, heck, I wish I had saved my money for Wildstart or the new World of Warcraft expasion... altought Wildstar has some serious performance issues...

It was entirely worth it to me. The race and class freedom and the horse made it more than worth it in game. Outside of game I love the lore book and the statue. I feel it's already paid for itself in entertainment value.

    Definitely worth it.

The extra cost was taking the family out for 1 meal. I spent way more hours in early access then the time for 1 meal

Got a horse and got to listen to people go 'how did you get a horse' ..horse envy

Got the Imperial race ..race envy

Can make anything Imperial (which look the best IMO) ...style envy

Did I mention I got 5 day early access? ..access envy

Can play in any faction..faction envy

Really, why wouldn't you get Digital Imperial? I know people talk price, but really it isn't that much, and I played way more in early access to make up for it and you get alot of envy!

  • sociald100ub17_ESO
It was worth it just for the 1 gold horse instead of the 17k+ horse. having that horse within the first hour of play and being able to start on leveling it up right away.

I got what I wanted out of my Imperial edition access to the Imperial race, and I must say their racials are not a let down. bonus health and stamina, and a passive that gives you a chance to heal with every attack.
