Any tips for defeating the trolls in Eastmarch?

Does anyone have any tips or advice for defeating the trolls that are found in a few locations in Eastmarch? They deal far more damage than I do so they can strike me down quickly if I engage in melee combat with them. If I try ranged combat with them, I deal even less damage and run the risk of running into a second troll. I play a DK so has anyone found an effective DK skill to use against them? I have tried alternating Magicka and Stamina skills but I have not found anything that works well. It seems like using Talons along with a ranged weapon might be the best tactic, albeit one with no great chance of success.

Hm, melee worked pretty well for me (DK with twohanded weapon, I'm using no class skills aside from the banner ultimate and Stonefist).
I knocked them down when they began to activate their heavy hitters and hit them with a bleed. When low on magicka, I ran out of the telegraphed area and charged back. I relied on potions for healing.

I will give Stonefist a try. I have not used it in many levels as it is ready to be morphed. Maybe using the morph along with some stamina attacks will help make these enemies manageable. You shouldn't need to rely on your Ultimate skill to defeat them given how they are as abundant as regular mobs.

If you are DW, then get heated blades (morphed from sparks).

I find it is the best counter to melee type elites. Also when he does it surround aoe you should really get out fast as that is a serious HP drain.

I had trouble with them on my S/B templar and DK. I was just not putting out enough DPS. I could kill them but it took a while.

When I took my Nightblade through there he locked them down and melted them though.

It was the same for the Harvestors. I just try to kill them before they can move.

On the other hand, if I run out of burst before I kill these high HP/high damage mobs, my NB has less tolerance for taking damage than my tank builds did.

IMO the best bet for those mobs are stuns coupled with burst DPS, regardless of class.

Troll's work like they do in many many rpgs: Their weak to fire damage.

Hit them with a strong enough fire attack and they will fall down and lose their regeneration ability for a few seconds.

(any old fire weapon on a critical hit will do this - though as a dragonknight your flame breath should be even more effective).
