What is the point of owning a keep?

Apart from the story (which I'm assuming you can only use at level 50) and the epeen.

Anyone ?

apart from the store* I meant, does it give you anything at all? Does it give anything at all to the guild?

points for your faction(who wins the campaign is based on points), the store as you said, and a place to respawn.

thanks for your reply, I mean when a guild claims it, it doesn't seem to matter whether its one guild or another or my guild, seeing as there's no benefits from doing so?

you have your own a keep, a place for your guild, a guild store, is that not reason enough?
  • mhobbs003b14a_ESO
My understanding was that it gives them a guildstore to use to sell to none guild member. So the longer they can hold it. The more their members can make profit and grow :)

Then again I may be doing it wrong. everytime I try to use a Keep guild store. it tells me I am not part of this guild and can not access their store :(

It was meant to have a public guild store, but it is not currently working as far as I can tell. So currently there is no real benefit to claiming a keep.

I'm late to the party.. but I'm guessing that owning a resource(farm, lumbermill, mine) is completely useless then

Which is what bugs me.. in DAoC, if something wasn't claimed, it would stay at level 1 and be a push-over to take. Problem is, that even fully levelled resources (level 5) in ESO are push-overs and they will level to 5 regardless.. no claiming needed.

A level 10 keep in DAoC was fairly strong (ie. double outer doors, with oil pour holes above the doorway). However for a guild to hold a keep at level 10, they needed to pay quite a hefty bounty point price (= guild currency, earned by it's members earning RP / AP). Only a few very active guilds were able to pay that amount of bounty points / hour and most of the time, level 10 was only used for keeps containing a relic (scroll).

Anyway modern day DAoC removed the upkeep cost, but that's more to do with the population number.

Currently the benefit to claiming a keep seems to be trolling. While some legitimate guilds claim keeps, there are plenty of troll guilds out there that only exist to claim keeps and throw a funny name on there. I personally enjoyed seeing nickel claimed by "Leave it open" and the outpost was, in fact left open and unrepaired.

Those guild stores used to work. Troll guilds would just claim a keep with empty stores, or with draughts of health and Ta's, just so they could put up their trolly name.

When I claim a keep I usually claim it for one of my trade guilds because I need to buy something real quick or sell some crappy reward items.

Oh, and DC, stop with the ugly pink and green tabards. This is why the guards don't fight for us at Dragonclaw and are quite hostile when we come to "rescue" them.

Gives nothing to the guild but epeen and store. Probably just epeen unless it's a viable trade guild. But it should give more imo.

This. Really it's promotion of your guild. Helps in recruiting. Other than that, no real value to claiming. Store is irrelevant IMO

Will say, that members of the guild that claimed the keep should be able to use AP to upgrade the keep.

    More / better guards.

Permanent oil pots / siege weapons.

    Stronger walls

    etc

That's a really interesting, appealing idea. Wouldn't want it too over the top, but, sounds fun. lol
