What am I doing wrong? Templar 2-H Getting Wrecked at Level 35

I wanted to build a great damage output. It turns out I get absolutely wrecked by mobs and do little-to-no damage.

- Orc
- Templar
- Level 35

This might be the problem. I see a lot of heavy armor damage-dealers. I always wonder to myself if doing medium armor was a mistake. You get so many more buffs for your damage by using med armor, but if it really gives MUCH more survivability, then I can see why I should go for heavy instead. Is this my issue? The only problem is I would be doing a lot less damage output.

Skill Layout:

- Reverse Slash (seems great for finishing enemies quickly); damage.
- Honor the Dead (my survivability); heal.
- Silver Shards (probably my strongest skill, great against undead/daedra); dmg.
- Repentance (no mana cost, restores health and stam from dead bodies); utility.
- Momentum (increases my damage output via melee by 10%); utility; damage.

Attribute distribution:

0/16/18

Statistics:

Weapon Critical Chance: 21% (I use Thief stone as well but it doesn't show the extra critical hit chance)?

Armour: 710

Weapon Damage: 89

Spell Resistance: 800

Looks like a good build... and one I was thinking of trying. I have a light armor Templar that is built on mana and kill fast and its ok at level 40.

Is that 16 points in health and 0 magicka?

Yeah it is. I think I might re-spec and go something like

    mag/hlth/stam
    15 4 15

I've found my problem. It seems like the Solar Flare skill (one that adds dmg/spelldmg to your next hit) is vital for a 2-H build. I crush everything now for some reason and also have nice AoE.

A different build for you to look at:
    1. Puncturing Sweep
    2. Reflective Light
    3. Honor of the Dead
    4. Critical Charge
    5. 5th skill to be whatever you want to be, can be changed out for whatever situation.

    5th skill could be:
    • Silver Shards
    • Binding Javelin
    • Reverse Slash

    Ultimate:
    • Nova (morphed)
    • Soul Strike (morphed)

Momentum is only good with a morph, and that's not saying much.
-The ability has to ramp up, and by then you should have killed everything.
-You also want you stamina for weapon attacks, not wasted on a buff that you won't get full benefit from.

Silver Shards, i personal prefer Expert Hunter(morphed).

Try to get a few skills that work well together.

You want an attack to initiate fights, Reflective Light is good at that.
    Followed up with Critical Charge.
    Then Puncturing Sweep.
If you knocked them back with Puncturing Sweep, then you can use another Critical Charge, you may need to step back slightly.

This atleast allows you to fully use all your magicka and stamina in a fight.

Binding Javelin also works well with Critical Charge.

I have seen a fair few Templar's use Spear Shards too, the morphs are pretty nice.

Glad you figured it out, Arc. I agree that the Dawn's Wrath line can help a lot and would consider shifting some of those health points to magicka personally. I love the look of heavy armor and have tried to use it on different classes, but hugely prefer medium armor for my playstyle.

I agree now that I've picked up Flare from that skill line. I should switch out some health for magicka for sure. Even if I had not I probably would have done it just the same.

Personally I put all my points into Health and fill up Magicka with provisions (food) and glyphs. With the food and the Glyphs I soft cap easily. With , of course, the appropriate gear. Right now I am running 5 LA and 2 HA

Note: I am still only a low level 16

I'll look at this as I'm actually going to be redoing my entire build once the servers are back up. It seems solid.

I'd like to get some abilities that increase my ultimate as well, as I've just replaced my previous ultimate with Werewolf.

I met a random player and we started talking. They gave me a FREE bite, and I intend to keep the cycle of free bites flowing to those in need. I've already got someone in mind as well.

I play a Breton Templar 2H/bow combo. I wear either 5/2 medium light, or 5/2 light medium depending on my mood. I have both medium and light armor skills maxed and Breton racials maxed for magica management. Magica is where the dps is for the Templar. Keep yourself at the soft cap. This makes all temar abilities more powerful. Then distribute health or stamina as you see fit.

There are many different combos, morphs, and abities you can use, but stack magica and use biting jabs for melee aoe. You won't be disappointed.

I'm currently running pure health with my templar, in light armor, and I can literally just spam biting jabs over and over and win, lol. For dps I highly recommend crescent sweep, for a low cost, very spammable ultimate ability. As well as solar barrage out of the dawns wrath line. These two skills have a great synergy when combined causing very high aoe dps. Solar Barrage is also useful for your weapon skills, should increase your damage immensely. I believe solar barrage would also effect 2H aoes such as cleave.
