Difficulty - Solo game or MMO

I had a thought today, it happens sometimes, Orsimer and that.

I was thinking back to my first steps in Stormhaven where I wandered the entire zone at level 15 collecting stuff I met bears for the first time. In Oblivion when I first met bears I ran, in this game with bears 7 levels higher I just killed them I was sad it was so easy running solo. Two level 15's should be killing everything in sight like true warrior's of our city. One alone should be crouching and sneaking like a Khajiit.

Today at level 22 I met the open dungeon at Bonesnap ruins in stormhaven, that was amazing, I died a couple of steps into the dungeon  ( I want a tusky emote smile) . So I went back again as we do. Didn't group once, no chat or orders, gained no xp bonuses or anything else but ran with 3 or 4 different groups of people at various times, killing everything, had to switch to heal once or twice. At one point I got stuck solo again and was FORCED to use the crouch option to sneak past mobs knowing if I tried to kill anything I would die.

That's what made me think. It felt like how an MMO should feel.

I type this standing on top of a tower, fighting trolls/Ogres on senjins ridge ?

(Technically, got logged out for inactivity, while typing, a bug I have no problem with  )

for me as a Daggerfall Nightblade im 21 and sofar reading all these posts abbout bosses to hard
the bosses that i basicaly killed in seconds max a Min some of them without effort while mostly heaving the same or lower level then the boss.....

    makes me sad ...........

if they nerf these bosses i will gonna feel like playing WoW where i can aggro 50 mob and come out with Half healtbar............

for me the Difficulty seems perfect i still dont gett it how people Can't kill these bosses........

    Exactly

I for one would like a few more heroic solo mobs in the zones, for those those times you just want a challenge. I liked when I stumbled on a few heroic Netch over on EB zone and didn't realise and suddenly I was running like you described, because unlike most which are tame these werent. Ten minutes later I was back and wasnt leaving until I killed one or a few.

I think the difficultly in this game needs to be upped, over the whole board.

Agreed. I rarely feel the need to ever group up in this game. Especially now that people are not running dungeons anymore.

I almost feel like I'm playing classic ES

I agree more grouping should be encouraged and necessary. Therefore the game should be harder I suppose.

I think it's pretty good so far. Most things I can solo, but some groups of mobs, mini-bosses and dungeons, like Obsidian Scar, need to be done with the help of others, or at least a little more caution.

It CERTAINLY does not need to be made easier. Whiners will whine.

Reminds me of SWG and the NGE (don't roll your eyes at me!), which, IMO, is the single greatest example of Devs heeding the whiners and the nerfmongers, ultimately resulting in the slow and painful death of the game.

The people who can't cope are (don't mean to generalize) children. If you can't buy liquor or vote, (ie. don't know what's best for you or your country), then you probably don't know what's best for this infant game.

    Rant concluded. That is all.

Not every one is a whiner or a child who encounters problems killing a boss. Sometimes it is your play style or class choice. I play a mage and some bosses are much harder to solo using that class than others. So far I have found the mobs/bosses to fairly well balanced in relation to level. In that I mean that my character can pretty well solo mobs from her lvl to 1-2 lvls higher and not die unless attacked by more than 2.
So far I have found that the players complaining about how this game is too easy are the ones who always seem to choose the fighter class that does the most dps. That type of character is always easier to solo.

that's a problem of class balance. but even then it helps to get help from someone else. dying 1-2 times an crying for nerfs is definitely not the way to go (meant in general)

Yea, the loudest cry gets the response from zeni. Its why Gutripper (Sheogoraths pet clannfear) was nerfed from beta to live. People couldn't grasp kiting.

Mixed views - I come to this as a solo player with no MMO background, with a game like Skyrim I tend to start easy to experience the game and get a grip on the technique and on a second or third playthrough I'll be on Legendary mode for most things. But I know from experiences in Cyrodil that a lot of you guys are a lot more skilled than I am - and given I work you are liable to stay much better.

So the devs face a challenge in that content must be hard enough to challenge the 'expert' gamer but also they need to feed the gamer of average skill, because the are going to be a lot of us paying subs too.

Now let me give an example - I'm in Bangkorai and doing the Storming the Garrison quest. I happily sneak/battle my level 39 NB thru all the quest, grind thru mobs of level 40 (i think), knock down a couple of bosses... challenging stuff (for me anyway) but also fun... feels tough but doable with some planning and luck. Then I have to close down an anchor in the courtyard and am literally smashed within 5 secs... go out, change my skills a bit... one hit killed again... the fun is fading fast... so I back off and do some other quests and will hit this again another day.

The point is that, to me, the final boss seems considerably harder than the quest level so far...

Now I'm not scared of tough combat... I managed the dopplegangers of Lyris etc which some have had issue with... but equally I am not a pro-gamer and there are times I just feel some stuff is beyond my skill level.

What I do not see is how the devs can keep us all happy because I want to progress through the storyline as much as you guys want super hard challenges :)

Hahahahaha Oh boy, wait until you get into veteran content! You're probably going to change your opinion in 2 seconds. Normal 1-50 PvE content is easy, true, but as you progress through the world, the difficulty of the game also increases. One of the main points for this fact is that people are asking to nerf the Molag fight because "It is too hard". Think of it as stepping stones preparing you to the harder content  !

I'd expect that but for me it's the one hit and dead stuff that I struggle with, I *think* my character is reasonably spec'd & I take the time to craft up the best available fully repaired gear & carry a spare set for those long grinds etc. As with other ones I'll take another swing at it in a couple of levels and see what happens but you make the higher rank stuff sound perhaps more challenging than the average gamer might handle?

Its way too easy now. I liked it in beta. Had to run for your life for a bit and wear it down. THAT is fun.

Im not so sure that kiting is something heroic or even cool to do. People that play a lot of games kite all the time and though i kite things, its not a feature i enjoy or immerses me in the game. Im hoping one day games will add something with a more cool factor than running around a room hoping the creature gets stuck or its Ai cant negotiate which side to get you from in time.

I remember in the past, creeping up on a monster was impossible in games because they had an alert radius, but now we have games like thief where you can epicly sneak up and kill someone with style. There is no style in kiting, its just a leet play technique that some are adeptly skilled at doing.
