I made an Excel spreadsheet to get a better overview of my researches.

I store my items with traits on a bank character (or 2) to save space in the shared bank.

When I quest with my main char it helps me to decide which items to keep for future researching an which to sell.

I also have a good overview of the items I can use for set bonuses.

You can download and than edit it.
Some of the formatting (alignment) will not be carried over when you download it but I haven't figured out how to prevent this.

HowTo:

B = You have an item with the trait in your inventory, bank or on an
other character.

R = You are researching the trait.

X = The trait is researched.

There are many functions and auto colors in this table. You only have
to fill in the status of your trait research (B, R, X) and the number of
researches you can do (Max) for each profession.

Nice I've been keeping something similar in a text file, but this is much cleaner.

Very nice I have a similar spreadsheet but it's tailored more to my current character with only 1 craft profession

I also just use a printed version; I highlight cells in orange if I have a research-able trait for a given item slot, then when I actually research it, I put an X in the cell AND highlight it blue.

It would be nice if there were an easier way to track this kind of thing. I have an Add-On that will tell me if I already have a research-able item in my inventory or the bank, but alas I have to store the research-able items on an ALT's personal inventory, not in the bank... so I have to keep a piece of paper spreadsheet to track whether I already have a researchable item stored for future use.

There's an addon for this...

It tells you which research trait you know, if you have a piece of gear with a redundant trait etc..

Yes, I also use the addon, but it only shows the items you have in your inventory (or bank). After I got hit by the Bank Bug recently I store all my items on my other chars and the addon can't look in their inventory as far as I know.
