Is Shalidor's "Gift" after completing the Mage Guild quest line bugged!? <SPOILERS>

I chose to not accept the book from Sheogorath... and outside, after, Shalidor offers me a gift... I levitate like I'm getting a skyshard, Shalidor does some magic, and NOTHING HAPPENS. Nothing changes!? Was I supposed to get skill points? A spell tome? WHAT!?

Same here except I never levitated. I think his gift is that everything you read, you keep, like everything you read becomes a lore book that you can go back and look at it, which makes sense with what he says when you talk to him.
"It is okay to fear the night, even the bravest warriors are filled with fright, at the sight of the might of Sithis' fang, let the blood be washed away by the rain, let the stains forever remain, another life taken in Sithis' name, another soul for the void. All hail our Dread Father and his consort, the Night Mother." -Stalks-His-Prey

Eidetic memory shows up in the Journal, under lore books I believe, after completion of the quest. You do not get any skill points if you decided to have Valaste cured. Only if you send her with the Mad God do you get the 2 skill points. Do the noble, morale thing and get gimped. Nice quest.

Yeah it is kinda sh*t, isn't it?

Skill points are a dime a dozen If you do all the sky shards and quests for all 3 factions so I don't really see it as some major handicap. She was saved because my character refuses to be a daedric puppet even though it is clearly pointless.

The game also strongly implies that form the main quest line and the guilds the story might not be exactly over and in the future we might see some sort of consequences to our actions.

I think it's an awesome choice. Actually makes you think: do you want power, or do you want to do the right thing? Assuming you care about such things of course, but for those of us that do it is, IMO, very good design.

And to be honest I don't much care about those 2 skill points, I already have a bunch of spares lying around and don't see myself needing much more; while there's still like a few hundred points for me to collect.

Agreed. Skill points are very valuable early on, but at the levels when you're doing quests like Mad God's bargain, you are probably swimming with unused skill points. For me I can never seem to have less than 5 spare at this point.

Sounds like a typical choice coming from an ES game. Both oblivion and skyrim were full of 'screw the good guy out of loot and shiz' options. Sometimes it pays to be a power hungry evil cannibalistic daedra worshiper. =D

Oh and I would FULLY expect much later in the game after who knows how many updates and addons, etc that the choices now will have some effect later. All you have to do is look at the world map to see just how many countries (or whatever they would be called) are missing to see the amount of future content ideally planned.

i love uncle sheo, but im a mage, and a upstanding member of the guild, and the guild needs Valaste. im hoping my choice to keep her will positively effect future expansions.

Valaste is cool and totally worth saving. I'm hoping she helps me find lorebooks later or something.

As for the reward, if you press j and go to the books section you're character now memorizes EVERYTHING they have ever read. And it shows you how many more books you have left to find. Its kind of a neat thing for us completionists and lorewhores.

I knew this, and sent her with the mad god, and did not get the skill points. I'm kind of annoyed :(

You have to read the book from your inventory to get the skill points.

I heartlessly slaughtered Uncle Sheo's entire family in The Chateau of the Ravenous Rodent. Giving him Valaste was the least I could do. It had noting to do with the skill points. ;)

I saved Valaste. There are enough quests that make me arbitrarily screw over an NPC without adding to the total. My only concern is that she's going to end up working herself to death again, and dragging her on an epic bar crawl afterwards to get her to relax and socialize wasn't an option.
