Quick Fix for FPS Stuttering.

This is a fix for the issue caused by turning around or mousing over items in the world and having your screen lag, and fps drop into the red zone.

I had consistent 70+ fps but any time I turned it would drop to 20-30 and skip like mad which made the game almost unplayable. I thought it was graphics card drivers, hard drive speed, cpu speed etc, but after a 700mhz overclock and ultimatedefrag4 being useless, the game still stuttered like mad.

The solution is really simple and makes almost 0% sense, but after doing it, I get no stuttering.

THE GUIDE

Right click "My Computer" Select Manage
Go to Device Manager
Click Sound, Video, and Game Controllers
DISABLE EVERYTHING BUT YOUR MAIN AUDIO DRIVER!!!!!!!!!(Mine had Nvidia, Screaming Bee, Anvsoft, Musiclab, and RealTEK.....holy s**t why so many drivers....I selected Realtek)
Restart your computer
Profit.
======================+++++++++++++++++++++++++================

The issue seems to be with your computer trying to render all the sound effects through all drivers making your buffer go into the red zone and slowing down your game. Or some yada yada stuff like that, IDK, I just know it works.

This issue has been around in many games, most notably Battlefield 3, so it's not my fix, but I don't know the original author of the fix so I can't credit them, sorry.

Interesting. I never would've pegged it as an audio thing. Thanks for that, OP.

    Tagged for later.

I've been in contact with ESO support. I have to say, very responsive and trying their best.

My issue is I get random crashes, Crash Reporter, errors. This can happen when 1 hour in, or 4 hours into a gaming session. Not predictable or consistent. The game stutters and BAM, crash report. I could be riding my horse into town, or watching a enemy caster cast, really not consistent.

What I've tried. 1) Closing the launcher after starting the game. 2) Changing the UserSettings file 'numthreads' entries from -1 to 0. These helped the initial stuttering issues I had while panning the mouse around. But these crashes still occur.

What's changed on my system? I upgraded my video card to a nVidia 750TI which has a HDMI out. I use this HDMI to output to my big screen. With the latest nVidia drivers also comes the HD sound drivers to support the HDMI out on the card. I believe my crash has something to do with these drivers. Before upgrading my card, I had my soundcard's drivers running and didn't experience this crash issue. But I needed to upgrade my card because my FPS was less than adequate.

That is why this post, which I haven't tried yet, brings some hope.

Did, or does, anyone else have similar issues and any resolution?

Yes I have similar issues on my rig have been looking for a fix for a while now. I have a core i5 3570k cpu, 8gb ram and R9 280x gfx card. My friend has similar specs to me and also suffers the same. Stuttering, fps drop etc. Tried the lowest graphics settings, no addons etc all the obvious settings and still nothing.

I have sent my crash reports to ZOS and still have no answer. I have all the latest software and updates, I previously had windows 8 and have since then reloaded my pc with a fresh copy of windows 7 and am still stuck with the same problem. I have individually tested all my hardware components to make sure they are not faulty in anyway.

I play Battlefield 4 all the time on Ultra settings and it runs super smooth so I really doubt its my pc is the cause here. Not when my friend has the same problem as me.
Dodge roll everything and be respectful to other players :p ...

One thing to be aware of with this particular solution is that if you use ShadowPlay to record gameplay you need to leave the NVidia sound enabled; ShadowPlay uses it to record the in-game sound.

Thread Necro for a good reason...

I have been experiencing the same stuttering when turning my camera view, once I disabled all other sound devices but my main, I closed the game and restarted.

    Not a single stutter since!

    Thanks kindly to the OP.

Wow this actually works. Why is this not part of every guide out there showing ways to correct graphic problems? This is the first time I have seen this fix.

    Thanks again
