BLACK SCREEN CRASH

I never experienced this until after the last patch. I use an AMD XFX R7700 graphics card. For me, my whole screen goes black, and I can't do anything. I can't hear any game noises, but I can hear noises from other programs such as Teamspeak, and the only way to get back to even my desktop has been to do a hard restart.

I uninstalled and re-installed the latest display drivers, and when I logged in to the game this problem immediately occurred.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

I am getting a similar issue, but before i even start playing. Launcher works fine, log in fine, but when i try to load a character get a black/gray banded screen or a pink/gray banded screen and the computer locks up. I can't alt tab or alt ctrl del to close it. The only thing i can do is hold power which i HATE to do! please help! I have 16gig of ram and a AMD Radeon R9 200 Series. not and nvidia issue.

Jesus, whatever you do, don't force logout of game if you get the black screen. Seems to be the common denominator for everyone else who now has the dreaded login timeout lock. Game crashes to black screen. Close game manually. And never get past login screen again. 100s of post on this in different threads now and increasing hourly.

how do you manually shut down a game when your entire screen is black and nothing you do causes it to come back on???????????

I am now getting this issue as well. It did not start until the Crypt of Hearts addition. The game runs flawlessly on my desktop with a Radeon card, but my laptop: 16 gigs of Ram, Radeon 7690 mt with 1 gig of ram, i5 2nd generation, is getting the black screen issue. I can hit the windows key and get out of it and shut the game down. Although I have noticed a number of things.

    1. The game ran perfect up till the Craglorn addition. At this point I started getting the stuttering issue and sever lag/ frame rate drop. Ensuring that the cpu's are not "parking" and setting numberofjobs to 0 in the text configuration file has fixed the stuttering.

    2. The black screen issue started with the Crypt of Hearts addition. Before this I had never seen it.

    3. With each addition my video card and cpu's are running harder and a lot hotter. It is noticeable with how hard my fan has to run. Before Craglorn my fan only went full bore when I had a lot of players or NPCs on the screen at once, now it runs full bore just standing looking at scenery.

I have tried the latest drivers from AMD and this has not helped. Sadly it almost appears to be random as to when the crash happens. I was able to play over an hour yesterday without it crashing. Today I can't play 5 minutes before the screen briefly halts and then goes black.

Hopefully this will get addressed soon.

    Cheers.

One thing to keep in mind is that video card drivers are updated more frequently and usually with performance increases that benefit the games like ESO. For this reason, we encourage you to contact our Customer Support Team with a Game Consultant file so that an agent can verify the dates of the video driver installed on your machine and compare them to the dates of the most recent updates on the manufacturer's site.

Instructions for creating a Game Consultant file are available in this article from our knowledge base.

I've checked the video card updates, it's up to date. I've also run a repair on the client, still hasn't helped.

There is an ongoing issue with nVidia 4x0 and 5x0 series cards and nVidia drivers over version 314.22, that causes very similar crashes. (References here and here)

For this reason, if anybody has one of these cards, it may be worth ensuring you do not have that latest drivers, and instead roll back to 314.22 or below.

I am aware of this issue because I have an nVidia 560ti card, that started crashing badly after I had upgraded my drivers beyond 314.22 (this was all some time before ESO was launched).

Rolling my drivers back to 314.22 cured the problem, and now all games that I play, and in fact my system generally, are stable; apart from ESO, where I suffer these black-screen crashes on a frequent, once-an-hour or so, basis.

I'm AMD, so it's not an NVidia problem for me. I'll contact tech support, this is happening every play session now and just happened again. For the record, it's this kind of performance that drove me away last time.

I have exactly the same problem, I haven't it before, after updates, update to windows 10 from 7 (x64), update my drivers AMD ATI, I dont really know what could be the problem I just wish to play, I enjoyed a lot pvp and now Im out of the "tracks" for that

I had the issue recently I was on party doing a random dungeon, I cant believe the instability of the game, and how that is allowed??!!??!!, I meant what is the point?? why not just solve the problem or say in a big announcement, "The problem of your game freezing or crashing is due to your old video card, get a new one, or the problem is due Windows 10", I dont know but please, Zenimax gives us an answer... not protocol, just an answer like If you were a common player who wants to know what the f*ck is happening, d*mn it...

It so annoying, I have payed to get Imperial DLC, Orsinium, but I had them as collection I cant play them, people must get a compensation dont you think??

This problem has plagued me tonight, in one particular area in game, Taarengrav Barrow in Riften (shackled Guardian quest). My game had black screen crashes, to the point I lost monitor signal & had to hard reboot.
What is really interesting, I got black screened in the same place on both Windows 7 & 10. Game installed on two different drives. In the past, black screen crashes were generally confined to Windows 10.
I'm deleting the usersettings file once again.....if that fails, I'll run a repair. My drivers are the latest amd beta on Windows 10 & the non beta version on Windows 7.

Okay. Deleting the usersettings file did not help. Game crashed again inside Taarengrav Barrow.

Ran a repair, changed to the 32 bit client. Guess what? The game crashed again.

Managed to play for just over 20 minutes now without another crash, after deciding not to re-enter Taarengrav Barrow.

Just want to throw in another update. Managed to play for an hour without crashes after staying out of Taarengrav Barrow, until I entered Avanchnzel delve in the Rift. Game crashed again inside the delve, which is also in the Rift, coincidence? Who knows.

Rolled back to a previous version of Windows 10 AMD driver. So far, all is well. Going to update this if more crashes occur.
