leveling individual skills ?

Anyone know the exact system used for leveling skills ? I seem to be having an issue. My sorc skill crystal shards is still at lvl 1 and I am lvl 17. I use it every single fight, but it doe sent seem to want to lvl. Other spells that I dont use very offten at all are all rdy lvl IV and morphed yet crystal shard remains at lvl 1...

Please I need advice on the best way to lvl individual skills.

I must have been bugged and it cost me 3700 gold to find out . After respecing It lvled right up to IV and I was able to morph it..

I have the same issue with Swallow Soul and Shadow Cloak for Nightblade!

Not sure what the problem you guys are having is but to answer your question when you kill an enemy or complete a quest the skills you have on your current skill bar get a portion of that xp. It's not about using them, but about having them on your bar.

A good way to level your odd skills is to put all the skills you want to level on your second bar, then when it's time to complete a quest switch to your second bar so it gets all the quest xp. If you forget to switch you can always tell the NPC "goodbye" then switch to your second bar and start the dialogue again.
