So did ESO sell really badly?

X-fire numbers, amazon and best sellers all point that ESO didn't sell much the last week. There's nothing pointing towards 1m sales. To be honest it looks much more like TSW sales than anything else.

I've never see "x-fire" give useful or accurate information in the grand scheme of things. Probably because so few people really use it. I'm sure Zenimax will put something out as to how well they did at some point (maybe after the 30 day mark so they have a true number of who's staying around).

I was hoping for some official numbers directly from Zenimax actually.
But i could careless, I'm very happy with my purchase.

I imagine most people who had already made up their minds to buy it, preordered.

to be honest most of their sales will come from xbox and ps4. they would have sold a lot more if it was on ps3 and 360. see how people cant afford the £10 a month..imagine those who cant afford to buy a xbox 1 or ps4 and expect to pay an extra 10 a month lol. They SHOULD have marketed in the 360 and ps3 territory.

It's really not a matter of how much it sells in the first week, it's more a matter of how many people are playing 6 months from now. If the 6 month number is higher than the 31 day number then it's doing well, if not, not so much.

Amazon dropped the ball on preorders, so it's no surprise people cancelled them and probably just got the digital version. (Also blame Zenimax for cutting off early access on a Sunday morning rather than giving preorder people a few business days to get their package in the mail)

Nobody knows how many digital copies were bought directly from ZOS. I would assume a lot.

From my experience in game and spending some more time in the lower level zones most of the people playing seem to be from the preorder group. I see a lot of white horses or vanity pets which kind of makes me feel like not a lot of people waited till launch to actually buy the game. As for the 1 million sales, it's just that...sales. That figure may not include refunds since it sounds like some people have quit pretty quickly.

I bought my copy well in advance of launch; so you must bear in mind that sales have been ongoing well before release.

Also, I agree sales figures will be discussed at some point; worst case if they are low it will impact the price point and the subscription model.

Further, don't forget Console versions which have yet to be released (and bonus points for ZO for putting an MMO on a console).

Lastly, I'm loving this game; I've already got a 6 month subscription. I've been enjoying this since launch and look forward to many hours of game time.

I have 4 RL friends who play the game. 3 of them bought the pre-order Imperial Edition through the website, the other I'm not sure. The website just seemed easier to me than sitting around waiting for a box. I got burned with the SWTOR collectors edition and decided the random junk wasn't worth the potential for disaster. I'm glad that I was proven correct.

I just recently purchased this game. X-fire has never been known for great information about games in general. I use Amazon Prime to purchase items online, but would never purchase any digital copies from them. Would rather not chance anything and just get my copies from the source. With the new generation of consoles that was recently released and all the hype about them, I'd assume console sales would be through the roof. I personally played Skyrim on the 360 and preferred it compared to on the PC.

To me it's pretty important that the game sell well, if we're talking a TSW like scenario with 200-300k sales then the game will go into "maintenance" mode quickly and new content will be incredible slow coming out.

If that's the case then I don't want to grind 10 veteran ranks just to find out we're in maintanace mode.

Well then I suppose you gonna have to quit now while you're in time!

It is possible for a user base to grow rather than shrink, especially if the game works out. Not sure if it will happen here, but a good enough game with constant support can improve rather than decline.

All of my friends that have not agreed on a shared MMO since Everquest 1 are playing this game together for the first time in years. I am even running into old guildies I had completely forgotten about. Seems to be fairly popular in my circles anyways.

Weather it sells well or not, I hope it goes down the path of WAR did.. and that path is keeping the sub until the game is officially dead. And never going free to play!

I pre ordered the digital imperial from zenimax the first day it was available. A lot of people pre ordered from here as well, wouldn't be surprised if most of their sales were from zenimax.

I did, and got it on 4/4.

Knowing Amazon, for the people that didn't get their game on time, or at least by yesterday, don't automatically assume it's Amazon's fault. More likely, they didn't receive all the copies they were promised.

The Sunday end to the grace period was all ZOS, too. Although I did get my shipment in time, the hassle of worrying I'd lose access due to moronic policies that NOBODY else uses has convinced me that physical collector's editions just aren't worth it, so I won't be doing that again in the future.

I really love that art book though, so I'm glad I did it this way, but I won't do it again.

I know a few players on the fence about picking it up, waiting on the release of WS. I send them updates, cool screenys etc..they just don't realize yet NCsoft is notorious for huge hyped sales, digital store content focus, and a extremely poor follow through w/QoL, content, balance, and bug fixes. Cash grab mmorpg's.

Give it a few months after WS release we may see another big up in population. :D

We will have to wait for official numbers not just because of consoles, but because of the huge number of us that purchased directly from Zenimax.

And as someone else said, initial purchases are less important than six month marks as far as stable community size is concerned.

I always thought there would be more console sales of this one anyway, following what happened with Skyrim. More of a console game with a PC port type of thing.

lol there are no figures formally released yet. The ONLY thing publicly released wasn't from Zenimax - it was the Software sales charts for the last few weeks. Both here in the UK and worldwide I've got it listed as number one. For figures we'll have to wait and see. Having been playing it the last week weeks, and seeing regular fixes and patches, I have high hopes for it. I think it'll go from strength to strength and far outlast WoW.
