Alts in ESO - Questions

Hiramasb16_ESO
Greetings my fellow adventurers.
I failed to find the answers to my questions on the net, so i post them here.
They regard Alts/Twinks in our wonderful game.

1. Guild creations says i have to choose an alliance for my guild. If i am in an Ebonheart Guild, can all my chars only fight for Ebonheart, no matter in which alliance they play in PVE? The text seems clear, but im not really sure.

2. I know that PVE is limited to your alliance, even on veteran levels. Since all Dungeons are accessible by all alliances, could I group with a multi-alliance group for normal dungeons? Any Info about how this will be regarding Adventure zones?

edit: changed thread title

    1) Yes, all combatants in PVP do so on behalf of the guild's faction.

    2) I don't know but would assume not, it would be kind of jarring considering the other faction-only aspects; that said, multi-faction guilds are a huge 'jar' to being with, so ...

Well, how do you decide for WHICH of your max 5 guilds you fight? Always the one that is listed number one?

I dont know if you guys realize that twink is a negative connotation to a certain set of people.

Anyhow... I believe you fight for all the guilds that are in your alliance. As I have not yet seen anything to show the selection of one over another, yet.

Being able to be in 5 guilds allows you to have a PVP guild for each Alliance, a guild of your own, and a trading/commerce guild.

I really see no reason to have more than one guild per Alliance for Cyrodiil PVP, but maybe that is just my short-sightedness.

What the heck is a twink? I've never heard of this term before.

It's a term that came alive with the WoW crowd (which shows the character of the community). You can google it. It is a negative word to denote homosexuality.
  • Hiramasb16_ESO
Well, you experience MMO terms different from different people, so, most people use alts i guess, lets stick to that then.

edit: Yeah, after a google search, lets stick to ALT, as the other one can have a derogative meaning. MMOs are weird sometimes.

So, i have not seen an option to choose for which guild i fight ingame, though I am in my Ebonheart Guild an an Aldmeri Trading Guild.

Well that would explain why I've never heard it. Never played wow, I came here from eve.

This is misleading. You can join multiple guilds, but each character can ONLY fight in PvP for a guild that matches their alliance. If you've got a Covenant alt but your only guild is allied with the Dominion, that alt just won't be able to fight with a guild in PvP until you join one allied to Covenant.

For #2, there aren't a lot of people who have reached those levels yet, so not a lot of us know. We DO know that you CAN travel to other alliances at level 50 to take on veteran dungeons, but I haven't heard details on what that entails, or whether you can team with characters from other alliances when you do.

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

I dont think this is correct. Yes it is a slang for that, however in WoW it refered to a character of max level in a certain bracket ie: 20-29 with the most powerful gear. They usually would just stay there and never level.

In an MMO context, as opposed to WoW, it meant an alt who is usually overpowered for their level as they are using high quality gear and weapons etc, provided by the higher level main character.

The word means, what the word means. The fact people were using that word, ignorant of what it meant, does not excuse the fact it was used.

*shrugs* But who cares right? This is TESO. New standard for gaming.

The definition coming from that use is debatable.

Having multiple guilds gives you a workaround for the One Keep Per Guild Rule as well. For example, I am I'm Alatreon but I also made the Alatreon Exchange guild and we had a few others so we could have multiple keeps labeled Alatreon. Other guilds in our campaign have used this tactic as well for PR.

My point being there are traces of the word being used for a very similar meaning in MUD gaming back to the 70's. Many of the popular terms in MMO's are from MUD gaming. An example is MOB being used to mean anything you are attacking coming from mobile in MUD gaming. I would bet 95% of the people in MMOs using the term don't know the roots.

Maybe that term as used the negative way in the 70's and that is why they used it then. Maybe the fact it is used now has nothing to do with how it was used in MUD. My point is the etymology of the word is debatable, not that I know what it is.
