All crafting skill points

arnold1387daniel_ESO
i was wondering if you could put all your skill points in crafting as you level and would that be viable for a pure crafting toon

Yes, you have more than 300 Skill Point available in game

Of course it would be viable for a crafting character. Whether you'd be able to kill anything is another story. I'm currently working on a templar with the bare minimum combat skills I can take and the rest in crafting, it's going alright. Not going to do any real group content with it though.

Not all, but you could get away with most points to crafting.

I think you actually only need 10 SP per Crafting Specialization? Even maxing out 4 you wouldn't need more than 40 SP

Each crafting profession takes between 18 to 23 skill points to max out. This means that if you want to max out all the crafting skills (clothier, blacksmith, provisioning, enchanting, woodworking and alchemy) you would be looking at using a total of 129 skill points to max out all crafting professions.

Is this possible, absolutely. Will it be a cakewalk, not exactly. If you, or anyone reading this, were planning on making a full crafting toon I would recommend leveling normally and using skill points into all normal abilities all the while leveling some crafting. After a while your crafting should be high enough to start leveling up the research skills for blacksmithing, woodworking and clothier (metallurgy, carpentry and stitching respectively). Do some research while your leveling so you don't have as much to do at a higher level.

Once you get to the point of having around 130 skill points you can stop leveling and just park your toon in a large city that you like and just reset his skill points. From then on just send all crafting materials to that toon and have him level the crafting.

With how the current crafting system is you don't need to be the same level as the materials you're crafting, as long as you have the skills points in the crafting trees you can create whatever is available. So you could potentially have a level 35 or 40 (depending on how many skyshards you want to hunt for) and have them crafting everything for all your toons.

    Hope that helps.

That's because the mail system is based on your account, not your character. Just like your bank, actually.

You guys do know that you automatically access your bank when crafting?

I.e. if you have a character who has nothing in their inventory and all crafting materials in the bank, you will be able to craft as normal.

The 130 skill point is a perfectly viable alternative for a crafting character.

Well, pace yourself. Don't forget to put some into fighting/healing skills. I'm putting a fair few in crafting but only when I'm happy my character has enough for dps/healing purposes.

That's the bare min to craft at all tiers. You'd want additional points in making it easier to upgrade equipment, and more research slots at the least. You don't need the harvesting perks, nor necessarily the hireling.

Heck if you got 100 skill points you can still be a master crafter AND head out as Billy Badass in content and RvR with those other 30-50 points.

Figure 20 points for 2 weapons, 40 for class skills (at most) and 20 for armor (two sets for a 5/2 buildout). That's only 180 points total. That is you fishing for 50 skill points through quests and skyshards, which should be totally doable.

The 130 was basically main quest and a few easy skyshards and leveling. If you were dedicated enough you could easily be a master crafter and an expert fighter/healer/ or tank. I say the or, because you will still be limited in what you can do in combat, compared to someone else who has those 100points to put in other things.

It's like EVE... you pick one ship, and you load out for that ship and in no time you can be a force to be reckoned with in that ship.

As a heavy crafter myself, I have wonder this same question. But at the same time I also realize that you don't need to put all of your points in your crafting professions as some only enable you to make the crafting easier (see crafting nodes, make more food items, hire hirelings, etc) and you can make the call to skip these options if you like without hindering your crafting progress.

Frankly, the low level crafting nodes (except hides and enchanting) seem to be quite plentiful and I would argue that you really don't need to put points in making the gathering easier. For things like blacksmith and woodworking, you can probably find sufficent resources to maintain these two skill lines without dropping additional points. And besides, the true leveling is in taking things apart that you didn't make. Instead of you simply making them.

I could do without the hireling, easily.
I could do without the seeing the crafting nodes (even though they light up like a christmas tree at night).

Provisioning and the extended timer on them, easily do without.
Provisioning with the creating an extra 2 or 3 food items... tough call as I could triple my sales ability, even vendoring the items...

But yes, you could get away with, what? 10 maybe 12 points per crafting profession and still be good.

One thing to note is that if you want to get the full amount of skill points available, you WILL need to do the main questline. Failing that, you'll want to wander out into the world to find skyshards and the special forges that make specialized equipment.

So making a functional combat character who also crafts EVERYTHING could be legitimately very difficult. I toyed with the idea of making a crafting character, but the skill point distribution at lower levels is just a little too thin. I suggest taking Goldov's advice and leveling up normally, then respecing once you've got skill points to spare.
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

@Blacksparrow I would agree with that. Once you figure out what you want to do, then specialize... Then you can rock out with your professions. Besides, just a tip on blacksmith, woodworking and clothier.. you dont need to worry about leveling those up... Just deconstruct and it will level up itself (and it is the second best way of leveling up).

So you can do those professions anytime and not have to worry about finding materials.
