DATA CORRUPTION

zawakawakab14_ESO
There seems to be people having data corruption issues right now. This happened to my friend's computer. Windows 7. Its so bad it messes up some of his right click functionality on windows. This ONLY happens after the patch and ONLY in ESO. TESO im looking for some help im willing to post logs ect.

It sounds like there is something else going on other than an ESO patch. What kind of antivirus software is running? That would be the first suspect.

I thought that too so the first thing i did was run RKILL Malwarebytes ADWcleaner and CCcleaner (in that order)(in safe mode)

I manage his computer for antivirus and stuff. The antivirus software i run....is ME..i have a lot of experience dealing with that stuff(work, personal) and nothing showed up.

I wasn't necessarily suggesting a virus. I was just saying, active antivirus software is known for interfering with game installs (and especially patching). MMO's in particular have cheat detection systems, and there have always been a lot of false positives in this area. The antivirus kills what it thinks is a virus, only to find it was a vital part of the game, and hence corrupted data.

A lot of this depends on which antivirus is in use. Norton and Mcafee are absolutely HORRID monstrosities that cause this all the time. AVG is terrible (it used to be good but has really gone downhill). While other things like Avast are better but still run into false positives and causing issues.

most virus's now days actually have built in programming to stay hidden from mainstream antivirus software. I mean SPECIFICALLY targeting those programs Norton AVG MCAFEE Kaspersky ect

Also, if the entire computer is acting up only when ESO is running, I would look into things like corrupted Windows system files (do an sfc /scannow assuming Win7 or later), or corrupted/outdated drivers.

yeah that is why i don't personally use them although i suggest them for less computer savvy people.

I've been getting this as well, and haven't been able to nail down the exact reason. It really sucks, though, because if it happens near a mob I always die.

Fix: Go into the launcher, click on Game Options dropdown, and select Repair. The game will go through and repair the installation, and you'll be able to play again.

so at this point i'm pretty sure it isn't data corruption I mean still could be but unlikely. After digging around in his PC I found a virus he contracted via facebook, Virus name "Kryptik.BWAM" trojan its self replicating. It uses up 100% of the CPU and the the case of ESO I think this was causing the "data coruption error"
