Item drop rates seem to be heavily skeewed

Is the game inclined to NOT drop items that you use? I'm a sorc using a firestaff and all light armor. I almost never get light armor drops compared to medium or heavy. And when i do get light armor, it tends to be white instead of green.

And i have NEVER gotten a green firestaff to drop. I'm using a lvl 6 firestaff (i'm lvl 13 currently). If a firestaff drops, it's always white. Most of the staff drops are white. I've gotten plenty of green melee weapons though.

I also get way more medium and heavy armor then i do light armor to drop.

It's really annoying since I have zero traits for crafting a firestaff since none have dropped for me to research.

People will beg you to buy there blue staffs for extremely low prices. Far cheaper than crafting it. The drop rate is really high.

Just check a guild store with 400+ members.

I always figure the random number generator hates which ever character I'm playing in any game. I always find the perfect gear for one of my other characters while playing a different one.

Honestly, I (and half my guild) have gotten nothing but light armor and staves.

Also, with crafting the way it is, there is no reason to have items that low below your level. Make a new one!

I doubt that it's just RNG. I play 3 different characters (levels 8, 16 and 18) and am developing clothing, woodworking and blacksmithing on each (so I save every drop to have the appropriate character deconstruct or research it). I've noticed that while some staves drop very often and I already have 3 or 4 traits, with a couple more available in storage when I finish my current research, fire staves are much more rare, and consequently I've only researched 2 traits so far, with no researchable traits in storage.

I've also noticed that in my experience heavy armour drops MUCH more often than light armour, with medium armour somewhere in between the two.

I'm using medium armor, one handed weapons and bows.

I've had like 20+ staffs, a ton of heavy+light armor.

I hate rng... or maybe rng hates me!

I've been lucky, I guess. I've got a good mix of armour (coming out pretty close to even among the trades, maybe a bit light on the BS items), and most of the traited items are different from each other.

    But that's RNG for you.

I realize with the number of people playing there are bound to be some people who just happen to get a string (or lack of) certain items. But it really does seem a little bit inplausible at this point considering how many items have dropped that I haven't gotten a single green firestaff...or even a white one - any firestaff with a researchable trait

I get 1 wooden weapon for every 13 metal weapons. I get 1 cloth/leather armour for every 20 (TWENTY) metal armour pieces. And I've been playing since early access. So, yes, to me they seem skewed.

The game forces you to craft or join a guild cuz questing almost never gives you something you can use or want.

I get that this game is very crafting/guild centric. But how am i supposed to craft a fire staff if i never get one to research traits on? Or is it also forcing you into crafting things only other people want so you HAVE to trade?

I don't know if it is, but it's just dumb if so.

you can make a standard maple inferno staff, and as luck would have it, you will probably start getting some that have traits on them afterwards.

At least you will be using a weapon that is the proper level.

yeah thats what i did - i realized if made one for my level and stuck a glyph on it even without trait and being white it would be better then the one i had - and at least then i can research the one i had.

friend i was playing with today found TWO blue staffs - he doesn't use staffs. One was a fire staff. i found a couple of staffs, greens and whites, none fire.

I had 10 staffs and various green light armour drop from one area alone and deconstructed them all. I have yet to see a bow or dagger drop from a mob since I started playing the game.

AFAICT things are balanced so that all weapons are equally common. So a frost staff is as common as a bow, is as common as a 1h mace.

If you're using 1h weapons, then dagger/axe/mace/sword are all usable - so you get '4 rolls of the dice'. If you're using a bow, then the only useful loot is a bow - so it's effectively 4 times less common to loot a usable weapon.

I still find a bow every few levels, but I generally make them from all the deconstructed staves.

It is not RNG. I have a lvl 30 NB using bow since lvl 1. Not a single bow drop.

So true, my heavy armour character got loads of things he does not need, tons of raw scrap hides and what not.

My Brawler medium armour two hander is having a nightmare getting raw scrap hides though....its funny how it works.

mDKs still need a lot of love!

I gave up and started to make my own daggers and bows, they are just not dropping in Stonefalls.

I have to agree. My friend, who is using a bow, did not get any bow drops yesterday. He did however find a few nice staffs, which he is not using. I, who am using staffs, did find a few staffs, none as good as the one's he got. And none a fire staff.

My friend, who wears medium armor, found a couple of good light armor pieces, and i think 1 good medium armor. I wear light armor - i found 1 light armor piece that was good and several medium armor pieces that were good.

It really does seem like the game is inclined to give you loot for items you don't use.

The same thing happened again yesterday - friend got a ton of staff drops - something like around 10. I don't think i found any staffs that day, maybe one.

Even randomness is prone to streaks. I went through a quest instance where every urn, pot, and container looted yielded lock picks, pristine water and the same food recipe. Suffice to say, I have a lifetime supply of picks and level 20 h20.

I too playing a heavy armour user find I get a ton of light armour and staves drop. Far more than I can even reasonably put in the guild bank. So I just vendor them.

My guild bank already has 4 or 5 sets of warlock and sun sets...

What gets me is how many of the quests reward light armour, staves, and magicka jewelry for me...and how FEW quests reward heavy armour and melee weapons.

the loot drops suck bad, I spent 30 minutes and died 20 or more times to kill the doppelganger in main quest and I got nothing. Nothing!!!!!! it cost me 1300 gold to repair my armor this is crap!!!1

Hmm - does everyone get the same reward from quests? Because i rarely get something useful from a quest. But I'm assuming everyone gets the same reward from each quest.

I get all items equally. Sure not everything can drop from a single mob and a tiger is unlikely to give you a wooden weapon. For example, if I need a fire staff I would go to a cave where there are some evil sorcerers or wizards with a corresponding boss in the end. After killing the boss 3-5 times you will almost certainly have a number of staffs and light armour items. I can't even call it an intensive farming as I only stay at each boss for a few kills and from my observations most of the players are doing the same (with some players staying there for half and hour or more). It also may happen that some items have a higher chance to appear at higher levels, for example I did not see a single helm/shoulder piece of any type till lvl15.

At my character level 35 I have already researched four traits for bow/fire staff/heal staff and my preferred heavy and light armour pieces. And I have almost all traits for those items available in my storage for future research.

Some quests offer you a choice in your reply. I remember a guild discussion about who chose which answer and what reward he received, and the rewards for different choices were different. Other than that, I also believe that for the majority of quests we all get the same. Because I see same quest items being added again again to the stores of the trading guilds.

In Deeshan now and not seen a single dagger drop from a mob or quest reward. Can't even find a dagger in treasure chests.

The daggers I have researched have been bought from the guild store.

Last night one run through Forgotten Crypts and I had at the end heavy armour galore and some medium armour. Lots of axes and maces but no daggers although I did kill undead rogues.

from my experience, i'm inclined to think the loot drop is not completely random. Way too many instances of me not getting any items i can use, but he'll get tons of them and he doesn't use them.

Daggers are not dropping in loot. I have an abundance of other weapons and even a search on the two guild stores reveal a sever lack of daggers. Out of 300+ people over two trading guilds and only 3 daggers up for sale?
