Greetings my fellow ESOers. Today, I shall discuss my thoughts on the new 2h refresh and some ideas for improvement. First, let me say that I am grateful that 2h weapons were given some attention, as they are my favorite weapon type in ESO. Now onto some pros and cons along with feedback.
Pros
-I enjoy the large, sweeping animations and the feeling of being a strong khajiit warrior who cleaves enemies in twain with a single stroke. Executioner and Rally look great, and I love the little twirl at the end of Rally.
-Sound design is popping. The strong slams and smashes as I slowly smite my enemies makes me feel supreme in power!
-The focus seems to be on a heavier feel to these abilities.
Cons
-I hate the over tuned glow. I already feel that, for a game set in a medieval fantasy realm, there are way too many glowing bright costumes and mounts making people look like power rangers. I should not have these lightsaber or fiery feeling fx from all my skills. As I said, Executioner's yellowish look is fine, though it'd look better in red, like a streak of blood. Stampede should be tuned down, since the blade itself is not on fire, but you sunder the ground. No reason for carve to look so fiery. I need some steely colors and feels when I am swinging blades about. I am NOT a fire mage, I am a warrior swinging a weapon. Save the bright colors for magicka skill lines (who already have plenty of options).
-I mentioned that I love the sound, MOSTLY. Please do a tweak for Axes (and swords to a lesser extent). Hammer sounds great, very punchy and brutal, like I am demolishing bones and caving in skulls. Axe sounds too much like hammer and should sound more blade-like, as with swords which just need a small tweak on their sound.
-Stampede/Critical Rush animations: it is too similar to Executioner/Reverse Slice. Maybe have it slam down like before, since that is what the skill description says, OR have it slam the opposite direction of Executioner, so that when I follow one up with the other, it looks as if I am expertly twirling my weapon from one side to the other quickly.
-Finally, my BIGGEST gripe and the thing that needs fixing most: uppercut/wrecking blow/dizzying swing animations are NOT GOOD. I like the upswing part, but in a fight, why would I pause to make this weird pose, THEN attack? I am aware it is accurate, and better than the previous animation. Just remove that weird pose at the start so that when I follow a light or heavy attack with DS or WB it doesn't look so janky or like I am pausing mid fight. I like the idea of slicing up from the side, and the speed of the slice is great, but weaving with this is a nightmare.
These are my thoughts. A request for comments: please read the whole post before commenting, as I mention some things people may bring up. I am aware some people love everything about 2h, but many do not based on the posts I am seeing, just adding another so devs take notice. As I said, this is a weapon line, not a wizard line, hence my critiques. Finally, be polite and respectful. I will not respond to rude or condescending posts. Thanks yall.
