The DK refresh makes Poison Damage irrelevant

Outside of Bow abilities and proc sets, there are only three abilities left that deal poison damage, down from six.
  • Subterranean Assault
  • Venom Skull
  • Trapping Web
One has seen better days, one is barely usable and one is absolutely irrelevant. Weapon abilities, including the scribing ones, have too big of an opportunity cost to justify usage in any build, even overland builds.
Similarly, using sets with poison procs or the few that buff the damage type, is a big let down, because you can barely do any poison damage.
The entire mechanic around the poisoned status effect is also highly ineffective without abilities that guarantee procs.

Poison damage needs a rework.
The situation now is just stupid. I hope this is on the Dev's radar.

They know, i think the plan is to make nightblade the poison class to fit the assasin arch type.

Yeah totally agree, my guess (hope?) is that poison will be added back to a different class in a future class refresh. But yeah we're in a very strange in-between phase right now, in more ways than one.

Agree the game the game will feel incomplete in many ways farward until they finished all the pure classes

zos has said this about Poison:

All sources of Poison Damage have been updated to Flame Damage in the Dragonknight kit. These changes were made to better focus on the core fantasy of the Dragonknight, where many affixes didn’t work, synergize, or coherently mesh with Poison across the entire kit. We’ll be re-introducing Poison Damage elsewhere in the game with other class refreshes, where it fits into the overall theme of said class rather than being tacked on.

    Warden and Nightblade seem likely.
specifically for Green Balance, if it gets damage morphs (hopefully).

Generally, people I’ve talked to (as well as myself) think poison will go to warden or nightblade. The one who doesn’t get poison will probably get bleed. I personally think warden getting poison is more likely. Half the class is green themed, it’s the next class to be refreshed (returning poison builds sooner rather than later), and life is sure full of poison. Nightblade is red and so is blood, they’re also blood-magey so…

Poison makes a lot more sense for Warden or Nightblade, and maybe even Dual Wield and more in Bow, and I'm looking forward to seeing poison there.

It was probably only chosen for DK because it was a "martial" damage type back when damage types had to match the resource they scaled with, despite dragons being most commonly associated with flame/frost breath (while being capable of much more, just less visibly).

The dark and terrible secret is that typed damage other than fire, which has some sources of imposing extra fire damage taken like Encratis, is all irrelevant because there's nothing that boosts it better than the things that just boost all damage.

Poison Damage is almost guaranteed to be added to Green Balance.
