its going to kind of depend, if you want to just be tanky and rely on focused efforts for dmg, or go a little higher dmg but have a tougher time with marauders

if im playing something tankier, i currently have a necromancer (pure class, but could possibly be optimized for more status dmg with some arc trees) that is heavily spec'd around status effects (i think i can trigger 7 of the 8 status effects, with about 4 of those being guaranteed on hit)

if i get lucky and can get a lot of focused efforts, i can maintain upwards 60k dps on a tank build with like 45k max hp and armor cap, i dont usually have problems with most enemies including marauders until after arc 6

my current setup on this character is using leeching plate (provides healing, dmg, and chance to do poison status effect), serpents disdain (+16 sec duration for status effects), oakensoul (less worrying about buff uptime and more on staying alive), and 1pc monster set (i went with baron zaudrus for the max stat buffs)

it really depends on what your trying to do, if your only planning on farming say arc 1 and 2, you could probably run almost anything with either a partner or companion and be fine, but if your looking to try to reach high arcs, if your solo its best to go tanky and just restart if you dont get enough focused efforts by arc 3, or run with a dps partner (or be the dps with a tank partner)
    plays PC/NA
    handle @Necrotech_Master
    active player since april 2014

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

There is no best build for the archive. You need to adapt and change your build the further you go. And it also depends on verses and visions you get.

What is your goal? Fast runs to Arc 4 and then done? Or do you want to go in for endurance runs? Because the answer is different depending on what your goal is.

I really love my 1 bar 2 pet sorc with Macabre's vintage and Seargants Mail for fast runs to Arc 4-6. Its nothing special. I've been to arc 9 before on this build, but those runs are rare. Fast first few arcs though, so you can get through Arcs 1-4 really fast.

I am running this base build for all my runs.

In first Arcs i am running Velothi. This mythic is comfortable until Arc five even to six, then i switch to Pale Order. When i get a Focused Efforts, i drop Force Pulse and use another skill.
You can also tweak this first build a bit, for example going for Maelstrom Greatsword and adding a few scribed skills to proc more status effects if you are running with a tank in duo.
Based on your visions, you can also drop recovery nodes in Champion Points or entirely change the buff food to something else.

In the late Arcs i am switching to this build. With this build, you can pull all mobs in add waves and apply Major and Minor cowardice, essentially making them harmless to you. Extended Favor really helps with this as well, debuffs stays longer on the adds with that vision. Weakening enchant also helps with many bosses, if you have Attuned Enchantments visions.

Overall my health is a bit overkill probably, you can probably run another Mundus stone all together. After all there is Max Health vision as well.

Do pets still get yeeted by mobs?

I remember bringing in my Matriarch while farming the Sorcerer sets (joke is on me!) and that poor bird kept getting one-shot after like Arc 3. Ultimately, it wasn't worth it to keep her because it was never alive when I actually needed the heal.

Just curious if that ever changed.

The Infused Weakening is so clutch against the later Marauders!

Curious if you've ever used the Poison-enhancing Vision? Given how many oddball Poisons you can make it's always seemed interesting but there's always seemingly something better to take or re-roll for.

I have never utilized a build for it. Poisons suppress enchantment and with five Attuned Enchantments vision, berserker enchant is just better than any poison i think.
